I got a 98 Talon N/A auto. The car is stock power-wise. It accelerates a lot slower than I'd like. What can I do to get some more low end power?

Sell it and buy a 4G63....

No but seriously if you're looking for some good acceleration I would honestly look into either turbocharging you current set up under LOW boost. If you go anything past 4psi you're going to have to build it, and doing so you would put more money into it than the car is worth. If you have the money I'd make your N/A a DD and go out and purchase a stock turbo equipped DSM. I promise you won't regret it... well your wallet will....:applause: anyone? anyone? aahhhhh.

Definitely a DD but I want to have a little more fun with it. And the electric turbo/superchargers are something I'm going to stay away from. I heard nothing but bad things.

As said before, unless you are turbo-ing it, there is not much you can do to it power wise. I would leave it stock, and enjoy it for what its meant to be. a DD economy car. The most I would do is lower it, throw some nice rims,a sound system and call it a day. If your looking for something a little more nimble, sell it and get a miata, or turbo DSM. Or, keep it as a DD and get yourself a dsm on the side.

Please don't add an exhaust, 420a's sound HORRIBLE with them unless turbo-ed. Not worth the loss of low end torque for the small gain on the upper RPM. Then again, it's your car, do as you wish. Just an opinion. :)

The best thing to do is get a 4G63 turbo to have an enjoyable car to work on and race.

As for your car, a 420a NA might be a deadbeat in terms of power. As Chrispy0530 said, "I would leave it stock, and enjoy it for what its meant to be. a DD economy car. The most I would do is lower it, throw some nice rims,a sound system and call it a day." This car wasn't meant to go fast.

Here's my logic:

You could have bought the Talon for, say, $2000. You could buy a relatively good shape Eclipse GST for a grand more, and have infinitely more possibilities for tuning, AND more power straight out of the box. Dumping another $1000 into your talon still won't be as fast as a stock GST or TSi, and your modification possibilities are fairly limited with a low budget, unless you drop an entire new motor in it, in terms of a sheer performance upgrade. If I were you, I would resell the Talon and buy a turbocharged model with a 4G63 block, if you're looking to get speed. But, as a DD, the Talon is a great car by itself. I don't mean to put your car down. It just wasn't made to do what you want to do with it.
