Lound Noise When Off Gas?!?

Have a weird problem that I need some help with. Almost all the time when I let off the gas in any gear at just about any speed, I hear a loud banging noise. Sounds like its coming from the left rear of the car. If I brake or get back on the gas it goes away and everything sounds fine. The car seems to still run fine and I have no problems other than the annoying noise. It's kinda hard to describe so if you have any questions just ask and I'll be glad to answer them. did this noise just happen all of a sudden? or did you take something apart and put it back together? any recent modifications? is it like a backfiring noise? or just a banging? could be something loose in the rear end that resonates from the exhaust tone from deceleration... i know my car rumbles pretty good when i am decelerating and using the engine to slow down...i wish i could help you more..

Or it could just be the exhaust itself hitting something on deceleration. Check and make sure it isnt close enough to the rear diff or anywhere else to hit or bang upon decel.

It's been happening for the past 2-3 weeks and has gotten louder recently. It doesn't sound like a backfiring noise, more like a banging noise. I havent had any recent mods that would affect something like this. It also happens in neutral so I dont think its something that has to do with using the engine to slow down. I only have an aftermarket muffler on the car (came with it) and I've notice a small rust hole in the exhaust right after the muffler. Don't think that could cause it though

you might want to lift the car up sometime and get under it to check out the condition of some of the rubber hangers, a couple of them might have broken, while your down there, grab the exhaust and shake it side to side and up and down, and see if it makes the noise, if all is well, then you may want to start looking at other things.

Sounds good. Ill give it a try and see what I come up with. Thanx for the advice
