Fellow DSM'ers,

Hey, I'm completely new to all of this, so please bare with me.

I have a '97 GS-T Automatic and I would like to somehow enhance the turbo spool-up noise without damaging the car or risking damage. Is this possible? I would like to keep it fairly stock.

Many thanks in advance!

O2 dump is a completely different sound and from a different thing that turbo spoolup noise.

As for making it easier to hear the turbo spool, anything that gets in the way of your ear and the turbo compressor intake vanes is going to slow it down. Open up the air can a bit, use a K&N, remove the silencer, get a steel intake pipe, that sorta thing.

These things have definately made it so you can hear my turbo spool, plus you can hear the bov more now too.

Apparently the Ramchargers MAF translator setup will allow it to be heard more as well, due to the more open nature of the GM MAF sensor.

All you need is the CIP-2gA intake (Price $139.95) on Dejon tool.com. Run an open air filter. Go on the VFAQ page to learn how to make an isolation box to seal the filter away from the rest of the engine bay (to lower intake temps). That will raise spool sound levels dramatically alone. If your creative, make an ABS 3" intake because I have found out first hand that ABS plastic will yield more noise than a steel/metal tube. I am running my own 3" ABS intake design and Im suprised on how loud it is (especially with a 16G, sounds like a semi truck ;) ). IC pipes, bigger IC, and all that help the noise as well, but youll wanna concentrate on getting the exhaust side (the most important side) of your turbo (O2, Downpipe, catback exhaust) taken care of first before bigger IC's and whatnot.

DSM'ers,

Should I get a full aftermarket intake system or just the air filter element? What will give the bigger SOUND impact? Speed really isn't my thing, not yet atleast. hehe :)

Great thanks in advance.

BTW, it's all about the love doods, we are all driving DSM's yo!

OMG, I can't believe I said the above!!!

Just an update everyone, I got a K&N FIPK, turbo inlet pipe, FULL upper intercooler pipe, lower intercooler pipe and a 1g BOV. The turbo noise is LOUD now :) I love the spool in 1st gear, especially at 3,500rpm. It's like, WHOOSH, then pppssshhhh, then more WHOOSHING in second. :)

I took my time in getting the parts from the classifieds here and paid ~$220 total.
