So I'm having a noise come up whenever I get into it.

I've been having some issues with my clutch and transmission lately, to give a bit of backstory - just recently started driving it again.

When I get on it in second, it's usually fine.
However, my 1-2 shift fork is broken and is near impossible for me to shift 1-2 at WOT.

It seems like if I go 1-2(i can if I wait a bit between shifts) or just try to go 1-2 and as soon as I get into second and the turbo starts spooling, I get a grinding noise from the front of the car - doesnt sound like its coming from the tranny area.

It only seems to do it if I recently did a pull in 1st gear at all. Although I can start in 2nd a few times after getting on it in 1st and it'll make the grind. The grind just kind of comes with the spool up, it sounds almost driveshaft related or something. I've never noticed the noise in 3rd or 4th though at all.

This is really confusing me, any ideas? Car isnt any slower when noise is happening either, pulls just as hard.

check the turbo for shaft play it could be that either the compressor wheel or turbine wheel is hitting one of there housings. i remember when one of my driveshafts carrier bearings started going out my drive shaft would grind against my exhaust when i would get on it.

Fix your transmission! LOL I wouldn't even drive it. Other than that did you try checking for excessive end play in your turbo? If the sound seems to correlate with turbo spool, that would be my first check.

turbo has no shaft play, still in great shape even though god knows how many miles are on it haha - I know the previous owner had the the thing since 2001

The transmission I know has issues but this doesn't sound like its coming from the transmission at all.
It'll be getting pulled anyway here in a couple a months.

yeah man, get that tranny fixed first. i would put money on the fact that its in some way related to the tranny being shot.

tranny isn't really 'shot' persay. The shift fork itself is definitely bent. goes in 2nd just fine driving around but at WOT doesn't like to go in. It will if I wait a second or double clutch it, but I just rarely do pulls that start in 1st unless I'm at the track.

I'm having the exact same problem with my car. It only does the grinding noise in 1st or 2nd gear when I really get into the gas, as soon as it spools up it grinds viciously. But it doesn't do this in 3rd, 4th, 5th, or reverse. Anyone ever figure out what this was? Car still pulls strong and makes boost same as always I just can't figure it out.
