Today i decided to adjust my idle a little bit because I noticed it was a little lower than it should be (i have a lightened flywheel). Since I've owned the car I have noticed a slight clicking sound but I didn't really think much of it, but after today when I slightly adjusted the BISS screw and revved the car up, it would make this loud clicking sound when the idle dropped back down and than it would go away.

I know for a fact that it is not lifter tick because I've owned about four DSMs and I've had my fair share of lifter tick experiences, so I pretty much ruled that out. It only does it at idle, and sometimes if i barely move the steering wheel. It got really loud after i adjusted the BISS screw. I tried to listen to where it was coming from but it was hard to determine.

I did a few searches but I couldn't really find anything related to what was going on with my car, most of the topics were lifter tick related or timing issues. So i'm not sure if I am just searching it wrong but if anyone could chime in on what could possibly be causing this it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! :thumb:

Did you adjust the w/dsmlink,evoscan or the factoy tool?

If not, maybe the biss is clicking due to its inability to control idle/maxing out to one side?

No I had no scanners to use while adjusting. I just turned it slightly. I wasn't really aware you had to use those for it :(

It would do it before when I first got the car(bought the car slightly modded) and I noticed it but it was very faint, but when I did the adjustment it became louder.

I wouldn't really think the ISC could be "loud" but try adjusting it properly and see what happens. If you're like me and can't enable the BISS adjust mode for some reason, just adjust it so the ISC sits ~30 steps at proper warmed up idle.

Try "unadjusting" it. does it go away? Maybe it just ticks at 800 louder than 700, and you never sit there and raise it a 100 to notice it.

Make and post up a video so we can bypass your judgement and hear for ourselves.

Any cracks or leaks pre turbo? Those can sound like a tick sometimes.

Hey thanks for the replies. I'll go through the car again tomorrow and try all your suggestions. I'm not sure if there are any exhaust leaks. The clicking sound seems to be coming from the back side of the engine towards the firewall. It doesn't do it all the time, and it does go away but I noticed it only happens when I rev the engine and it goes back to idle than i can hear it. Raising the idle made it even louder. I'm gonna try to get some video of it tomorrow.

Exhaust leak at the egr perhaps. That would be on the left of the intake on the back side near the firewall.
