well, it is time for a new engine. my 95 just crank walked. I am going to go with a 6 bolt bottom end and keep my 2g head. I was wondering what combination of pistons and rods people have had the best luck with. I was thinking of the wiseco 8.3/1 pistons with eagle H-Beam rods, but am still open to any suggestions.

Its unfortunate but it happens man.

What is your budget?

Top of the line everything?

Or get it running, and running for the least amount?

The OEM 6 bolt is ready in stock form (pistons/rods/crank) for under 600 whp, and some will argue it will handle more.

I have a little over 4 thousand to work with, to get it up and running. I plan on getting a gt30r turbo eventually, so I would like to have a setup that will handle it, but it depends on what I can get for the money. unfortunately i won't have much over 4 thousand to work with cause I am getting stationed back on the east coast real soon, and I have to drive out there, so not much time to save for top of the line parts, so any advice would be great. thanx

I think you have a good plan going but the 2g head won't bolt to the 6-bolt block without some type of machine work to the 6-bolt block(on the other hand I think that the 1g head can be bolted to the 7-bolt block with less maching to the head)....

well there is no way I am going with a 7 bolt again, so I was planning on having the 2g head studs machined to fit the 1g block.

If you call drilling out the headstud holes machine work. Other then that there is not any machine work involved in putting a 2g head on a 6bolt.

^^^Yes, I think you will have to drill out your head to clear the larger diameter of the six bolt head bolts not the other way. I would get the pistons and just reuse the stock six bolt rods.

I reused mine and have no regrets, Im running a GT 30 now, but i did put ARP bolts in the rods and had them polished and shot peened and had the small ends bushed for floating pins, this was if I had a failure i could remove the pistons at home without needing the machine shop or a press.

PS your close to ROSS pistons over in Torrence, you could order there 8.5 pistons and have them next day!

back to the original question, does anyone have a better suggestion for pistons and rods than wiseco and eagle, or is that a good choice?

Ok, I think they are a great entery level of performace parts.

you can buy higher priced parts but the results will be nominal.

on an all out engine id use CP pistons with a Oliver or Manley rod or even the older default Crower rod.

how much power wil the wiseco/eagle setup support? I am looking to make around 500 whp, and need to know if these parts can get the job done, or if Ishould save a little longer and go with a stronger setup?

They will get you your 500hp and then some, but then again so will stock 1g rods and 2g pistons.
Tyler

Stock 1G head bolts will clear the 2G head bolt holes. ARP head studs aren't neccessarily needed. But I run a 2G head on my stock 6 bolt in my 89 mirage. We had an extra set of ARP's so I drilled the head out myself to accept the 12mm studs. I think it took us 10 minutes maybe less to modify the head.

PS, 2G heads are better anyway. You would be suprised who is running 2G heads out there on their six bolts.

The wiseco / eagle combo laid down 645hp here on the local Mustang dyno in a civic 1.6, the same car then drove an hour over to another shop to hop on their dynojet and laid down 814hp. I'm sure the eagle/wiseco combo can take you where you need to go :thumb:
