Hey! So recently purchased my first dsm, know quite a bit about the cars, but mine seems to have an issue. During heavy acceleration (that means damn there petal to the metal) the car will accelerate then have a sudden pop sound, and a loss off acceleration. It will go in out of power loss until you let off. If I gradually accelerate, it will boost fine and accelerate fine. Boost leak? Vacuum lines? Help would be much appreciated.

well might as well be the first to say check for boost leaks. cause thats what it sounds like. report back afterwards.

First take the other guys advice and do a boost leak test. Nobody ever went wrong doing a boost leak test, even though I believe that has nothing to do with it.

Are you getting an excessive amount of lifter tick?? If so you are most likely having some phantom knock issues. 2G's are usually worse about getting it. The cause is the amount of lifter tick these engines produce. Sometimes the lifter tick can get excessive enough that the ecu will interpret it as real knock, (detonation), in turn pulling timing. Most of the time when this happens you can let off and get right back in it and it will pick right back up. The only known fix for phantom knock is a set of 3G lifters. You could try changing your oil with full synthetic oil and a quart of lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer. That does seem to help as a temporary fix. There are a lot of threads spread throughout these forums about this subject. If you decide to do a set of 3G lifters, there's a tech article written by kenamond detailing how to install and adjust them.

I'm not hearing any excessive ticking, but will be listening a little closer for it. (also, I'm already running full synthetic). As for mods, the car has had 3 owners, the guy before me did no mods, but the previous guy did a full rebuild. In the rebuild (I was told) the owner put in aftermarket rods, and pistons. There is a tdo5h turbo on it, size is unknown. There looks to be aftermarket injectors, but I need to do some more digging to see if they are. The exhaust is full 2 1/2 with no cat or resignators. Thats all the mods I know about. I'm going to do the boost leak check this week.
