well i warmed up my car this morning on my way to work.. and sad enough the Temp needle did not stop rising :'( noticed i was missing a gallon of antifreeze/coolant, i refilled it.. temp went back down..
but then rose a little again on the way to work shut it off rolling down hill.. ( i work less than a mile away)

im pretty sure i need a HG because i have no leaks and i feel like i have more smoke then just normal condensation from the cold.. i havent noticed any leaks where a gallon is missing..

im afraid about how to get home because its all up hill..

what do you think? also my oil is normal color and my coolant looks normal other than it missing soo much so soon.. and i slowly removed my cap and lots of steam pressured out..

just some info..

Inspect the smoke. you should be able to look/smell and determine if its white smoke (antifreeze) or condensation.

well ima have to really inspect when i get out at 3pm because i know im leaking oil slowly due to a cracked oil pan.. (NYC pot holes dont play smh) but not to the extent where almost a gallon was missing..

if incase it is the pump.. i hear to get OEM pump and change the timing belt, right?

anything else to change while i got the head off.. should i do a port and polish if its cheap or what?

no my oil is always up.. its a slow leak.. and ive always been on top of it... i have a case of mobil 1 10w-30 that brings like 12 bottles incase LOL but i never run low.. back to what i asked, OEM pump only and belt change.. along with a MLS HG.. hope fully ill be ok

haha...a true dsmer never fixes his car to were you never check the engine for fluids or leaks.

i think having a small oil leak is better than not, because you constantly check for oil condition and life. also you will pay more attention to your engine bay rather than just turn the car on and drive. LOL

i know this is the wrong answer but think about it, it makes sense. but seriously if you correct these small problems they can and will prevent a major issue later down the road.

but the flip side is that if you maintain small fixes unattended it seems that those are the only things that are wrong ever, if you fix them something major will arise LOL. its karma.

Roger that on oem pump and timing belt. Go Kevlar timing belt. I'm probably going to have to replace my head and will also replace water pump, timing and maybe a little more. Trying to keep a budget...

Port and polish the head? Going to be pricey... I'd look at myself and ask if that is really want to do with my n/t. Not the way I'd spend my money and time, but your call.

Forget name of Kevlar timing blet. I'll get it for you in a second.

Gates Racing timing belt. about $150.

And a true dsmer fixes ALL leaks and problems, then RELIGIOUSLY rechecks for leaks and problems

Do compression test first.

Then replace timing and water pump...

As from what I understand, HG might not be the problem. Though it more than likely is. If you're wanting to save some money, do the compression test first as stated by iugrad92turbo. I'm in the same boat and really praying its not the hg.

Search for overheat as keyword in threads. I just learned a lot.

thx alot for the link.. but one question what does a compression test tell me when my car is over heating? and if so on a 420a motor what should be good readings on each cylinder?

if anyone knows?

compression test will tell you if there is a leak. If the psi are high and concistant during test, there is no leak. There are tech write ups on this. Leak means the HG has leak and is worn and that is where your problem lies. You should be able to find temp readings using a search. Not sure myself. Esp with a 420a... Let us know the details. If I am wrong on any of this, please let me know. I've just learned about this myself.

Also, I'm having about the same problems... follow my thread and see where to go from here... I've got a lot of help coming in and this is the best advice you can get. imo

Yes, do a compression test. It'll let you know if the HG is holding up. Another thing to do is to check your head bolts. A friend of mine had an issue with the bolts not being trq'd down properly and whenever he got on the car the head would lift and cause the symptoms of a shot HG.

I don't know if yours is only acting up under a little bit of heavy throttle or just anytime, but it's atleast another suggestion. Best of luck man.

Also, whilst doing this test, if there is a low compression number anywhere, this will help you determine better what caused the problem and where. Knowing this added info, will allow you to know what particular parts need replacing... Goto tech tab, and search Vfaqs for compression test and leak down test. Easy read and very informative. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-engine-fuel/338152-compression-leak-down-testing.html
