Loose heat shield on down pipe

How do I fix this? It's on a 92 AWD TSI, when the engine rpm's get to 4000 it makes an awful sound. I jacked the car up and revved it and saw the heat shield vibrating. Do I just rip it off or what? I tried to put hose clamps around it to make it quiet until I can really fix it but it didn't help out any. Any ideas???

Mine did the same thing. The heat shield on my cat was also rattling quite loudly. I just took as much heatsheild off of the exhaust as I could get. I haven't seen any ill effects and have been running that way for about 8 months.

Like he said, just pull it off. Mine was making a squeak at 4k rpms. The heat shield on the catback section was rattling like a mofo as well.

Did you guys have to take the down pipe off to do this or did you just rip the shield off while it was still on the car?
