I am looking for a wire under the dash that has 12v only when the car is running. it also needs to have no power with the key in the on position but the car not running. If anyone could help that would be great.

you want it to have 12volt only when the car is running but not when the key is on??? is this right

I would look to jump it into the red wire off the back of the stereo, seems to be the best place and its switched power, it will also work with the key in the auxiliary setting, this being provided that none has hacked your car installing an aftermarket stereo.....ive seen some headaches

this is an alternator sensing wire on a remote start and can only be on while running.

you have to run a wire from under the hood thats for the Tach, its the white wire on the coil

on the ignition harness (the grouping of about 4-7 larger 10ga wires leading to your ingintion) the wire you want is: Blue/Black. but it's on when the key is on, anytime.

Alt sensing wire for remote start?? i'm a DEI (VIPER) dealer, never heard of this wire... maybe the tach your looking for? the white wire is correct for the tach wire.

problem is my remote start doesn't have a tach sensing option. So it has to be a wire that has 12v only after the engine is started and 0v with the engine off and the key in the run position.

here is a picture with the wire circled in red

what kind of unit is that?

you may try the white wire anyways, because it will only be charged with the motor running. maybe that wire could run a relay for you. and the relay could be your trigger wire for that 12v only when running

My guess is that this is input needs very little current and is just used to sense if the engine is really running.
That being the case, I'd suggest the oil pressure light. The wire for that is C-63, pin 11.

A while back, I've hooked a few things into C-63 on my car, including the oil pressure light. From reviewing
the diagram in the shop manual, C-63 is located at the upper right corner of the junction block; I think it's one
of the plugs that hangs off the side of the junction block, but doesn't actually plug into the block. It plugs into
another cable that goes into the engine compartment.

Pin 11 is the second pin from one end of that connector. It's a yellow wire.

You could also use the fuel pump power wire coming out of the MPI relay, but that wire is higher current and it
might warrant putting in a 3A fuse to protect your smaller-gauge wiring going into the remote start unit.

If you used the oil-pressure light, and the engine lost oil pressure, would the remote start be smart enough to
shut down the engine, or would it attempt to restart it?

If the input to the unit takes too much current, it would make the oil light come on dimly when it should really
be off. But I doubt it would take that much current.

finally got my car running after 5 months and was able to try wires and the oil pressure light wire worked perfectly. Thanks for the help everyone.
