I just got my 1992 AWD tsi Talon bone stock 4 days ago and i'm already in love LOL but i do have a few questions about it and what i should get.

1)I was thinking about going with the 16g turbo, but i need to know if i can just swap out my 14g and put the 16g in and be good to go? or do i need to get other stuff as well and if so, do they sell a kit that would have everything i need?

2) Does the stock turbo have a blow off valve? If so or not, how would i go about changing it or adding one to it?

3) I noticed when i first got the car, it was going into the 10+ pounds of boost, but today i noticed that it is only running around 7? What might be causing that? And also, does it come withe a stock manual boost controller and or/ how could i add one to it?

Any tips for any of these questions would be great :thumb:

Thanks, B

1) When upgrading your car look this tech guide. It will help in the process.

2) Yes if you have a turbo model car you do have a blowoff valve. To change it you need to get different intercooler piping with the right flange for the new blowoff valve you purchase.

3) How do you know what boost your at? Do you have a aftermarket boost gauge in the car?

4) No stock boost controller.
EDIT: Here is a tech article on how to make you own boost controller for cheap. Or you can buy a electronic or manual one.

Also, welcome to the DSM world!

If I remember right, the 1g stock boost gauge actually has numbers on it, unlike our 2g boost gauges which just have arbitrary lines on a curve. Of course, that's not to say that the 1g boost gauge is any more accurate than the 2g's is. :)

highvan, an aftermarket boost gauge is a must before you go about messing with the boost settings. Also, don't vent your stock blow-off valve or an aftermarket BOV if you get one.

First off, don't rely too much on your stock boost gauge to give you accurate readings. Also, since your car is stock, you're probably still running you stock BCS (boost control solenoid) which is the cars own way of monitoring and controlling boost. When the car is running properly, not knocking and in a "good mood" the ECU sees that and allows the car to boost about 11-12psi (stock boost) But, if the ECU is picking up knock and pulling timing, it's gonna pull your boost down as well, 8-9psi. Ex. It's hot as hell outside and you're boosting with regular octane gas. Oh yeah, don't forget, always use premium gas!
