Hey guys im new here looking to get into the modified/tuner world. I am looking to buy my first car of this type and I was wondering if anyone knew some good online classifieds I could look at. I'm really looking to a good deal too. Thanks!

Oh my bad man I thought i posted a thread but when i looked for it I couldn't find it... My apollogies!!

Well he obviously didn't like your other answer ROFL j/k

Haha for real. LOL thers only so many options unless you wanna order a kit car:D
And its cool dude i could care less about that or the spelling/grammer. but ive seen a lot of people getting chewed(main reason ive read on these forums for almost three years but just started posting) for really stupid things on hear just trying to save you the problem.

To the OP: DSMs come in two flavors. The 1G: years 90-94 and the 2G, built between 95-99. The top of the line models are turbocharged with AWD and some with FWD.

Word of warning though, if you don't have a lot of experience with turbo cars or deep pockets in case something goes really wrong, be very cautious when choosing your DSM. A lot of them have been beaten pretty bad and not cared for properly.
That's not to say they aren't good cars with amazing motors. If taken care of and done right, they're little Tasmanian devils that can go toe to toe with cars costing twice as much.

There's a lot of info on this site already. Browse through the forums and welcome stickies.

I could'nt have put it better myself.:applause: These cars simply require maintaining and they last for a long time. Everyone wants to built a 500hp car then wonders why they break there stock tranny with there first launch. Or why the car starts rod knocking after 1200miles or less. But didnt change there oil after the first 100miles or up to that point:nono:.
If you aren't a mechanic, you'll become one haha. These cars are easy to fix and with a couple g's in mods maby less if you buy the car with mods, then you can push vettes, sti's , all the big names right in the mud. This i know ive beat both, haha plus a SC GTO. the new one. But with a bit more there isnt much that you couldn't beat. Well besides other dsm's that are built better:banghead:
I read somewhere that it was a good thing mitsu. never produced a V8 version of the 4g63 cause we wouldn't be racing muscle cars, or exotics. Wed be running with F***ing spaceships and rockets:pray:

Sorry i jumped off topic LOL but i had to share. But personally if you want reliable performance and dont care about looks, go with a 111g. If looks are your thing go with the 2g. I love how my 1g looks but most like the curvy body that 2g's have. Not my thing if im buying curvy im getting a supra

As for your choices in cars dont talk about getting a honda hear LOL 90% of dsm'rs despise honda's well really ricers in general. Ricer being defined by the wing that gives you 100extra hp or crazy looking body kits. I personally have seen my buddies sti blow and seen a lot of other videos on them blowing. The boxer motor is just plain crap. Haha if you want cheap easy speed dsm is the way to go i promise once you drive your first gst/even more so with a gsx, that your going to love it. Even if its stock and only pushing 8psi once you get a cheap boost controller and boost gauge to monitor with its a totally different animal.

Well thanks to everyone for all the replies. Looks like i've got lots of learning to do. I've actually been contemplating going to Wyotech or somewhere for high performance automotive so I actually know a thing or two about it so my dad doesnt get stuck doing work haha.

Hoeslty though, I dont really know a lot about even just doing a dyno or programming or anything. What kinda stuff should I actually learn, before I drive something like this. It seems to me like the normal casual driver cant drive one of these dsms hahaha. And I wouldnt ever go too crazy modding because i'll just be using this to drive around. Im not trying to get into dragging and stuff.

Cant really tell you things you need to know. Oil changes haha those are something you should need to know. Thats about the ecstent of my knowledge before i bought my old GST. If you have the will to learn I promise you between these forums/dsmtalk forums and your dad you could learn everything you need yo know. Its all about how determined you are really.

That's exactly what im willing to do. I hope by buying one I can get even more interested. I'm thinking of going to school next year for high performace sort of stuff so that'll help too.

LOl have you ever drove a boosted car? Haha if not your interest will go way up once you feel that first pull. Lol this i also know from experience. I hadn't ever drove a turbo car before i bought my first GST. While doing the test drive i got on the free way and punched it.:DAnd thats how my face has been since.
Well every time i mod. i get like that again. Boost is like crack you can never get enough.

LOVE THAT POST SCOTT. Thats what im interested in. I have to be honest i did sin today though. My buddy just bought a civic (not really modded but more mods than i've ever drove before) It had the vtec with a cold air intake. I drove it. But all I really wanted to hear was the BOV sound of a dsm. I was completely unsatisfied. :/

VTEC = all of the turbo roar with none of the turbo power

I had to say it. But seriously, some of us DO respect "some" hondas because they are built right or just becaause they are our RELIABLE DD. done right (and with twice the cash) honda's can be pretty beastly, but their engines were not designed to be boosted and therefore can break easier. scott90gsx420, I loved your post about if you aren't a mechanic when you buy a DSM you will become one, exact story with me.

my car is a mostly stock GS-T still with the stock head and turbo. but I have a boost controller and and boost gauge, it renewed my love for this car

So do you guys think honestly i have much of a chance of finding anything thats driveable and ready to go under 5 or 6k? Thats honestly all i've got to spend right now but i'll have more by the end of summer I just don't want to waitt!

Ive got less then that into my car. So yea id say you got a really good chance. Theres a talon hear in boise i want to pick up decently modded/rebuilt for 3k. haha im trying to take a loan out cause i want this B*t*h.
My first car ever was a 91 CRX w/VTEC. I gave it the simple mods and when i woke up in acoma a week after totalling it i was determined to find another one. Then i ran into the guy selling the 93 gst. I havent looked at a honda since. Dont get me wrong i got nothing against honda i got problems with the people who think throwing a 10foot wing on there car and 22inch crome wheels w/ a body kit to make it look like its still sitting on the ground adds 200hp and allows you to be the fastest thing out there:nono:
Lol il post some pics. of my crx after i wrecked it i think you all the guys on this site will like it:sneaky:
You can get a stock dsm for dirt cheap man and for the 5-6k youv got to spend you could get a decently modded car and then go though and do all the rebuild/maintenance work that beast needs and still have money left over for more mods.
Just make sure you have a very good understanding of tuning before you start to mod or anything tuning is what makes or breaks the car/literly.:hellyeah:

Oh and my car is my DD.

Im glad to hear that dude i hate seeing people turn there back on these cars. I mean there so cheap to fix. Why would you want to sell it after breaking an axle. Id rather have a dsm broken down then not have a dsm. i was the same way i bought my 93 gst stock and drove it for a few months like that and then threw on MBC and gauge ect. thats when i set my 350hp goal to be enough , just enough to push vette in the dirt. I am pushing at least 300AWHP and i eat vettes all day, But i can say im already saving up for my 20g build. LOl boost is like crack ahhaahahah
Hear are the pics. of my crx right before they crushed it

Here's the car I'm looking into right now... What do you guys think?? I know this is a total noob question... But would i be able to drive this with just my knowledge of driving a regular, non modded car manual?

Pennswoods.net Classifieds: 96 Eclipse GSX AWD Turbo 93K

Looks pretty good man. For the front, get some more pics of it. If you get it better remove that stupid bumper:D Make sure he has receipts. And find out why he had the motor rebuilt haha i have my speculations but im not saying what i think caused it:sneaky:.Its has 660 injectors which are going to be really hard to tune with the afc. But it has a wideBand so thats a plus and will help you a lot.
