hey,
going to look at a black 1996 eagle talon thats been sitting in pieces in some barn out in the country. It has been said that it has a recently rebuilt first gen motor. the transmission has also been completely rebuilt recently. the guy said that it has an aftermarket turbo. I have no problem with buying the car and building it. just trying to figure out if it is worth it.

anyways i was just wondering if there is anything i should really look for. I'm going to take the head off an check out the cylinder walls if the guy lets me. i'm at least ripping the valve cover off.

if anyone can give me some advice before i go look at it today that would be great. I will post more about the car once i see it. I dont even know how many miles are on the body.

any ideas on how much i should offer for it?

thanks,
Maloney

cool thanks guys.
yeah i know i haven't seen it yet so as soon as i go look at it ill let you know what turbo is on there. got to check the strut towers... thanks for reminding me.
i guess the guy blew up his 2 gen motor so he bought a gen 1 and had it built. so he had the tranny rebuilt and the engine all redone. he just never put it together and it has been sitting for around a year. the guy is into bikes and just stopped worrying about the car (one good reason i wont get a bike).

i hope the car is what he says it is... This is going to be fun if it is.

yeah the car has not ran since the new engine because he never put the tranny and engine back in. i know he spent a lot just to get the Automatic transmission rebuilt to stock specs.

I'll definitely take some pictures of everything so you guys can really help me out.

I meen $1500 sounds like a great deal if that tranny is all rebuilt and that engine is fresh.
still going to start cheaper than that though

got to see it before anything! ;)

alright just got back from looking at the car. the body has 137,000 on it. of course the paint is a bit worn, but that was expected. small dents in the hood and right front fender.

all i care about is that transmission and engine though. so the guy doesn't know anything other than what his friend told him. his friend josh built the motor.

so it looks like i have no idea what is inside that engine until i speak with josh. I've been told josh is a legit guy and he wont mislead me. were all friends in this deal... no shady deal here. i met the owner of the car through my friend Dj and DJ is also friends with josh.

Ok sorry i didn't get any pictures. all i had was my phone to take pictures with and the barn was to dark to get clear pictures.

i do not think the turbo was name brand. just some decent sized water cooled turbo. it just said turbocharger and then had a part number hahah. so i wasn't to happy about that. there was no front to back shaft play and a very small amount of up and down play. it spun very freely. The turbo manifold was the stock T4. please correct me if i am wrong. all i know is the manifold looked stock.

so i know its hard to help out with little info about whats inside that motor... but still any info is helpful.

the car has full HKS exhaust and comes with a set of brand new fusion tires. there was a nice new shiny downpipe in the pile of parts. looked like it was a good half inch bigger in diameter than the exhaust outlet on the turbo haha. dont think I'll be using that if i get the car. also has all the inter cooler piping and front mount inter cooler.

so yeah... i need to talk to josh about what is done internally to that engine. at the least im hoping to hear that it has new pistons in it.

i saw that the mount on top of the tranny was broken. im guessing the mount was for the engine, but as i said i am not familiar with these machines.

Im thinking i'll offer $1000 for it.
that seems like a very good deal, but then again i don't really know these cars

i wish the car came with a piggy back ECU. that would save some money.

so its pretty much a shot in the dark without knowing anything about that motor... and i guess i will just have to trust him about the transmission being rebuilt.

any advice would be great. thanks again.
I'll post some more about it as soon as i know more about it.

The only problem is you haven't heard it run,Your buying something that someone is telling you there's not much wrong with but when it comes down to its been sitting could need gaskets replaced, timing belt,Fuel pump,Anything and everything could go on that car when you start it up,When you buy these cars its best to hear it run,Make sure its boosting correctly, and running decent at least,Cause even though your friend knows the guy people still rig things and never tell no one,I don't understand if he did all that work why let it sit,Even if he is into bikes why spend that money then just let it sit and build grim and time destroy all the work he didWTF Kinda makes me wonder..

yeah i tried to take pictures man.... it was to dark for the camera on my phone and the phone has no flash. i will go back with a light and take some pics.

ok so this is why the owner(bike lover) doesn't care. he traded josh a probe for the talon (engine and tranny out). he has a contour and his bike so he just never tried building it.

it makes me wonder as well. not so much that he traded for it and let it sit around, but that josh traded it after rebuilding the motor and paying for the tranny to be rebuilt. makes me want to start asking question about that POS probe haha. must have been a decent car.

i know its not really a good idea to buy the car if i can't see it run... but what if it is all what its cracked up to be? i want to believe that it is... but that turbo is throwing me off.

so again i guess im just going to talk to josh and throw lots of questions at him. even if he did rig something you would think he would tell me about it. its not like its his car anymore.... hes not getting the mone. If anything i hope to hear him excited about someone buying it and making it run. maybe he's willing to help out.

I'll make sure to go see it again in the next couple of days with a light and take some pics.

thanks!
keep the advice coming
