Been looking everywhere around town and can't seem to find one. So in the meantime, I'm doing a lot of researching until then.
Really, what I need to know is if there is anything I should watch for when buying one. I would like a 5-speed AWD, preferably first gen but second gen. for the right price. I read a little bit about crankwalk, anything else these cars may have go bad often?
Any advice or words would be helpful, I would be doing all the work, upgrades, and maintenance myself. Is the 2.0 engine in the n/t DSM's the exact same and interchangable as the turbo engines?

DSMtrader has lots of cars on there for cheap if ur looking for a fixer upper or something thats already built to stock

Man, all the cars are up north! The ones down in the south are still far away from me and expensive.
Anyone got any answers to the couple of other questions I posted? Thanks.

The 4g63 in the non-turbo first gens are interchangeable with a turbo motor, but I don't know how hard it would be to take a non-turbo 4g63 and turbo it.

So if I had a turbo talon or eclipse, I could take a n/t motor, bolt on all accs., and install it in my turbo car?

The pistons on the N/T and turbo are different..

compression for turbo=8.7:1
compression for n/t=9.0:1

as far as finding a DSM in your area I would Check-

www.autotrader.com

www.ThePartsTrader.com

and aim for a 92 gsx or Talon AWD =they have 6bolt motors :thumb: and some came with the beloved 4 bolt rear end :thumb: or a 90-92 and do a 4 bolt swap

Good luck~

Make sure the seller knows when the t-belt was changed (if it has been), atleast every 60K is a must! Run a compression test, I believe on a 1G anything below 124 psi requires a rebuild. :thumb:

Might not be a bad idea to ask for maintainence slips as well... find out when the car was serviced.

Maybe you will luck out like I did... I bought my car from a dealer who had ALL of the paperwork from the ONE former owner before me. I found them in the phone book and called them up. They fortunately had kept every bit of paperwork from the car, including the dealer work done to it and the original owners manual.

Good luck.

1g turbo has 7.8:1 compression and 2g turbo had 8.5:1 compression. Where do you get 8.7:1?

Hey I am a new member on this site and just found this thread using the search. I am interested in finding a GSX or a Talon awd. How do you tell though if a turbo DSM is running properly when you go to check it out. I have seen an ad for an awd Talon in the newspaper and was interested. I am interested in upgrading from my 1.8 so then I can use the car all year long. Thanks

Check everything you normally would on a car. Do a google search for "Used car buying guide". If you can, find someone who has experience with turbo'd DSMs in your area and get them to check it out for/with you.

Search on here for "buying a DSM" or something similar. You'll get lots of hits.

Yup. You can definitely get lucky if you look hard enough. I bought a 1992 TSi AWD with a pre-May 1992 build date. YAHOO!! 6-bolt engine and 4-bolt rear end from factoria. Seller had no idea why I was so happy. :sneaky:
