liquid to air intercooler ?

It'd have to be filled with cO2 or nO2 at minimum to have a chance of bein able to do anything. If it was filled with water it would have to have an external air to water cooler with a pump system to circulate water thru the heat exchanger. If that's only a selfcontained unit that you fill with water after the water gets heated to the temperature of the air then it's done cooling anthing at least until you allow it a generous cooldown period. Mostly air to water ICs get used for drag racing. They have a large water chamber which can be filled with ice. I wouldn't buy this thing. Even your stock smic is going to be more efficient at cooling than it
 
Oh ok. i was looking for a way to keep intake temps down and underhood temps down aswell. i have a bfmic now and it block's the air flow from cooling down my rad, and my intake temps get very high. Just figured if i used this and some sort of box and pump i could push ice water thru it to help keep intake temps down. thanks
 
The one posted from ebay has been used on a few DSM's before. Someone was selling the exact one in the classifieds not to long ago and it does have provissions for water lines to be circulated. It would need a resevoir and a pump located preferably in the car and not under the hood to keep water cool.


Some problems I would forsee using CO2 or liquid nitrogen is that if even the smallest crack developed all the pressurized CO2 and liquid nitrogen would flood the engine and cause catastrophic damage. CO2 and liquid nitrogen is also under high pressure so you would have to construct a cooler strong enough to contain the pressure.

just using water would that actually cool the intake charge more then a fmic ? i will check the classifieds to see if it still for sale.
 
Most all of the air to water ic setups are intended for drag use. Where the car has time to cool down between runs and be repacked with more ice. You'll often see serious drag cars with maybe even ten big coolers full of ice for a day of racing. It'd be very difficult for around town sustained driving.
If you're looking for your car to run cooler setup a sheetmetal aluminum fmic to radiator shroud to ensure that all flows thru your fmic and rad instead of all over the place. A hood vent like carbon trix helps a ton to pull heat out of the engine bay. Or take the plunge and invest in a vented carbon fiber or fiberglass hood. I have a vis evo style cf hood. It sucks a lot of heat out of the engine bay. Also are you running full synthetic oil like mobil1? Synthetic oils have been proven to run cooler than conventional oils. Setup and airbox for your intake to block it from engine bay heat. Run redline waterwetter to furthur reduce engine temps. Depending on what year your car is possibly go to a remote external oil to air cooler.
Alot can be done to manage underhood temps and airflow. You already have a very good setup as far as ic is concerned. It will hands down work better than eBay water/ air ic
 
just filling the resiviour with water works well for a street car, you don't need an external heat exchanger, just watch your IAT's. When your at the track, you can fill her full of ice, and be more then 100% efficient. A big resiviour is what you need, and atleast 3/4" lines feeding it, and a pump thats worth a damn at moving anything.

It holds 40 litres. It does add a bit of weight ;)

All in all, doing an A2W setup is a bit more work then doing a standard A2A setup, and much more money as well.
