2G Limp Mode

Well long story short early this year i bought a 96 talon tsi shortly after purchase it blew the motor. I had a motor built and ended up buying some go fast parts for the car

, the new motor is in and everything with that is great but the transmission was stuck in third gear when the car was fired up for the first time.

After a little research i assume it is in limp mode. I have a few questions, should i try and un-plug the TCU to try and re-set it? Next are the TCU interchangeable between 95-96 tsi and gsx?

Any input would help as to how I could resolve this issue buying a new TCU unless there is anything else i can do? Im to the point to where i will paypal some one money

I just spent a few grand on the motor and goodies and now i cant even drive the car to break it in any help on resolving TCU issues would be great. if you have had any luck with fixing this you could even shoot me a text any help would be greatly apperciated

as far as I know the TCU is interchangeable between 95-96 tsi and95-96 gsx the 97+ are different.
you can try the Kiggly Mod, which is cheap and easy and will tell if tcu is the problem. http://kiggly-racing.com/auto_shifter_wiring

The TCU or TCM may or may not be the problem. Basically it is telling the ECU that there is an issue and has put the car in limp mode to save the Tranny. I have done extensive research on this as i was having the same issue. After 3 months I discovered that the wave plate in the tranny is bad, so will have to rebuild or buy a rebuilt one. If you have access to one hook up an OBD II to the 16 pin connector and run diagnostics on it to see what codes it throws. Mine was a P1750, generic code for a problem associated with the tranny. Basically your best option is to test all power and ground wires first. It really depends on what codes you get so you know where to start your testing or it will point to the part that is causing the issue. Hope this helps. Well i finally found out my issue.
The car only went into limp mode after we put the new motor in. Turns out the O2 sensor and transmission plug are the exact same and were switched around.

Talk about a pain in the ass im glad we finally figured it out
