Light Weight Wheels

Yeah...I'm sure the tires had a impact on the traction but weight would also play a role. As for the weight, I just got them because I wanted performance not something that everyone else would have.
There was a big difference with the tire also though...I didn't weigh them but I'm sure I could. I'd say betweend 5-10lbs per wheel when picking up the rim/tire combo.

As for this....I hope those aren't your words ROFL

As for the cast vs forged debate... forged wheels allow thiner cross-sections. Porosity in castings require thicker rim sections to reduce air-loss through the rim WTF

Some rims are spun cast to have a denser yet lighter stature. Rays do this in some of their wheels.

SPUN-RIM, FLOW-FORMING OR RIM ROLLING TECHNOLOGY

This specialized process begins with a low pressure type of casting and uses a special machine that spins the initial casting, heats the outer portion of the casting and then uses steel rollers pressed against the rim area to pull the rim to its final width and shape. The combination of the heat, pressure and spinning create a rim area with the strength similar to a forged wheel without the high cost of the forging. Some of the special wheels produced for the O.E.M. high performance or limited production vehicles utilize this type of technology resulting in a light and strong wheel at a reasonable cost. BBS has used this technology for several years in their production of racing wheels for Formula One and Indy cars. BBS's RC wheel for the aftermarket is an example of a wheel produced using spun rim technology.

Actually they aren't my words. Just repeating OEM wheel manufacturers.

Alright man sorry...just read through everything real fast and didn't see it quoted...did'nt seem like those were your words after the previous stuff you said.

I can still say that after a year of use...well maybe a 3 months or so actual driving, I still love the Motegi Tack Lites just as much...the only thing I don't like is the fact that they're motegi. I've never seen another car with these on in my area...car shows or the track, so I'm very happy about that too, it's nice to be different now adays.

I "crushed" a pothole in morgantown a few weeks ago and didn't even look because I thought they'd be bent for sure...got out and they were fine, thanks to my high sidewalls and the fact that the rims aren't poo.

P.S. Put air in you tires when it gets cold... :thumb:

Nobody mention Gramlights 57F... I have those wheels since a year 17x7.5 (38mm), they are forged and very strong, lights 15.0lbs and nice.

i dunno about you guys, but im still looking for something. searching for new rims is harder than anything else ive ever searched for. most sites are in japanese, and tirerack.com wont tell you anything about the rims unless you put in your car. then they limit it down to 50 20 lb rims i dont want. sweet, huh? anyone care to share where they bought there rims from? (dont mention ebay as thats a given)

You uys should look into Velox wheels the pro-gear series are very light they have many models ayt 17" at 16.5 lbs. You can get most of em on

www.wheelsnext.com

but for weights you must go to Velox's website. www.veloxperformance.com

Wheels are mounted/balanced/and shipped/1 year free rim repair/ lug nuts/ spring/ from $800 to $1100 for 17"s

I have been looking at some trak lites. Would the 17x8 with 45mm offset not work? What would be the problem and what size tire could I run?

Thanks

on the link posted earlier for wheel weights, they say the gramlight t57's weigh like 17-18 lbs if I remember correctly. I saw the gramlight t57-rc's and fell in love with them, they are the most beautiful rims I've ever seen, but when I looked up the weight for the ones I wanted (17x8 +33mm offset) I could only find the weight for other types of t57's on that site posted. anyone know what the actual weight for these rims are, if the f's weigh 15 lbs each thats probably light enough for me. If the exact ones I want weigh that much I'll be so happy, they look soooooo good.

57c's in 17x8 weigh 20lbs, but the 16x7 weigh 15.0-15.4 lbs. It lists the 17x7.5 as 15.5-18lbs though.

All this light wheel talk reminded me of a company called desmond. Based in Russia, use to make tanks I think. They made some rims that were light, like 16x7 would be 12lbs. The honda guys had these to show off at car shows since they were too expensive to scuff if you actually drove on them hard. The problem is I don't know if the company is around anymore. So if you want strong, light, and sizes that appeal to track/auto-X guys. Have a friend who bought a set of 17s staggered (RWD) that he got for over $2800 with no tires. The topic said light wheels, not anything else. What ever happen to the TE37s from volk?

Did you mesured them by yourself ? Mine, I've checked twice (cause they was telling 12lbs on the site I bought them) and I find out (twice) it was exactly 15.0lbs...

Yea I weighed it myself. My scale may not be that accurate, but it shouldn't be off by more than 1 lb or so.
