On our cars, can the engine be lifted out and put back in with the transmission attached? I have fwd by the way.

i had to tow the car back home because it wouldnt stay started. got it there went in and replaced the water pump, timing belt, tensioner, tensioner pulley, balance shaft pulley and belt.... so got that all set with the engine in the car
that wasnt fun. only to start it up and hear two distinct knocks. 1 is a lifter, i ran the car with the valve cover off and could see and here which one it is. and the other i could not determine, i wound up paying mitsubishi to tell me what the knock was. towed it to the dealership only to find out it is a rod knock which is what i suspected. so now im replacing the lifters and putting a new SHORT block in
