lifters are knocking.......not mine though

alright, my buddies' lifters are knocking kinda bad on his honda prelude. he also needs an oil change really bad. could these two things be connected somehow? i know its a honda but i know how supportive you guys are so you think you can help me out?

If his oil has gotten to the point that it wont properly lubricate his lifters than it will cause noise.
