Lifter tick lol?

The only way to tell is to hear it in person. Lifter tick is very common and not much to worry about. It will usually decrease in intensity with a few good revs of the engine. However, don't mistake a rod knocking as heavy lifter tick. Rod knock never goes away and gets louder and faster with every RPM.

Thanks and what i believe is a lifter tick on my gst isnt very loud only when the hood is open is when you can hear it really

Yeah that's lifter tick. If this guy's car is knocking, you'll notice a difference.

Alright thanks man. I was mad as shit before i went to the gym earlier becuase ive only put 600 miles on the car since ive bought it and i thought it had a rod knock or something already. good to know its nothing to worry about

Alright im pretty sure its just lifter tick then when i rev it i cant really hear it at all

it its a rod its gana just keep getting worse the more you run the car under boost and eventually it will pull your timing because the ecu will pick it up as knock... if you pay attention once your car warms up the tick will go away and depending on the mileage in your car some oil additive like lucas will help.

It's not recommended using additives on turbo motors due to being too thick in the CHRA and/or the oil will just sit and cook.

Some people use additives with no problems, i wouldn't. But if it is lifter tick which it sounds like it is you can always swap them for the 3g lifters.

My gst has a lifter tick at an idle sometimes and goes away when revved or driving. I wouldn't worry much about it. I run Castrol 10w-30 full synthetic with Lucas oil stabilizer but a rule of thumb is a dab will do it.

I agree with Zyro about the 3g lifters. I had a tick in my 95SGX. I bought revised lifters of ebay for under $100. They are pretty easy to put in, the how to is posted on here, and they solved my tick problem. I have heard that it could also be the injectors which is normal.

Damn so rod knock sounds like lifter tick ? If so damn because my avenger has a tick and gets faster as i accelerate

Mcgee- Change your oil and try using an OEM oil filter unless there is already one on there. When I did this my lifter tick went completey away and I havent heard it since. If it does work then good, It's quicker and easier then changing to revised lifters. Something about a bypass or flowpass valve or something in the OEM filter is supposed to eliminate the tick.

Thanks, Jayson
