I am having a debate with myself on how to adhear lexan to cf. What's the best way? Any special tricks?

Theres a 3m tape gasket for that purpose... I prefer to srew it than use adhesive... You never know when you have to remove it, and removing glass adhesive is a hassle and could damage the carbon fiber easily...

That makes sense. I have heard lexan goes dull fast and scratches easily so in case of me having to replace it, screws would definately be best.

Heat gun ???? You would arrive to hell and melt yourself before molding a lexan with a heat gun... Big lexan windows are shaped in an oven...

One thing you may want to consider with screws, you won't be allowed to race in certain classes with lexan and the screws make it obvious.

In drag racing, basically the only class that dont allow lexan are street class... But, make sure you know under which category you are going to race before starting your race car build just so you know what you allowed and what arent you allowed... The thing about sport compact racing is no real sanctioning body like NHRA are sponsoring sport compact races anymore, and you have to balance your car between small sanctioning bodies like Import Face Off, other national events as well as your local track events who have their own different categories. Basically you'll have to make a few changes to your car depending n which events and which category you are racing under to be allowed under their rules to race. That only applies if you have a hardcore race car and race nationally, but if you plaanning on just racing at your local track just check their year schedule and their categories.

Keep in mind rules will be different between autox, road racing, drag racing, etc. (we're in the Newbie section, not a specific racing sub-forum). I believe in road racing, lexan will bump you up pretty high in the classing (would have to verify rules though). Autox would probably be very similar to road racing.

No, but they can make them though, but you'll need to make a minimun order of 10 for them to custom make them... You can get 9 more people on board and make a group buy. Thats how we made the 2G kit order. I wonder how many other 3G owners would be interested in lexan glass though, cause that generation Eclipse never caught on to much attention. Probably your best bet would be having a local lexan fab shop custom make one for you, but you'll definetly need to provide the shop a OEM glass for mold purpose... Good luck... I dont suggest you making your own using a heat gun, you going to hassle yourself into frustration getting a big piece like a lexan window glass to shape itself into the OEM shape. You going to need a industrial oven for such a big piece. You might get away with a heat gun with a small piece like a quarter panel window, but with a rear deck or front window for sure you'll get nowhere...

You are definately right on this one... Hmmm. I dont even know if there are any lexan companies around me. :l And if there was it'd probably cost an arm and leg...

I can make you one if you send me a template of your stock window. 1/8" lexan is so flexible that it doesn't need to be formed like the drivers/passenger door windows. Send me a PM if you are interested. As for installation, I use 3M windshield adhesive. Rivets can be used as an extra precaution but are not necessary. Another option would be to use countersunk allen bolts.
