I just used the cheapes rattle can I could find at lowes, I'll take a pic in the morning in better lighting. I should have used thicker plexiglass I cracked it in 2 spots installing it:banghead: Still looks ok but I am going to replace the head soon. When I do I'll make a better one.

Looks real good actually I'm about to copy the idea LOL

no problem, I made my template with ducttape it works really well just an fyi:)

Looks good, will it hold up to the temperature?

Thanks,
For anyone iterested in making one I used .080" thick plexiglass GO THICKER! I cracked mine in 2 spots installing it. I didn't have a sparkplug cover anymore so I used duct tape to on the valve cover to make my template. To make the Mitsubishi emblem I traced the one on the front bumper and I made the GS-T by using stencils on tape and then cutting them out. Use something good like frog tape. they sell it at lowes it's green and they keep it by the paint. Lastly in the case that you don't get a good seal and the paint runs make sure that you do several layers of paint then peel the tape back and use a small paintbrush and you can clean up the edges by dipping the paintbrush in some paint thinner or "goof off" etc. Hope this helps you all out.

We have another level 3 snow emergency and I have some leftover plexiglass I just may have to redo this. If so I'll post new pics

Not bad for plexiglass. Heat is your enemy with that though. I would have used sheet metal.

So far it's holding up to the temp just fine. I agree about the sheet metal, however the OEM cover was plastic, likely a different compound than the plexiglass I used but I made this with what I had on hand. When I replace my head I will likely make one from sheet metal or thicker plexiglass. Unless I get real ambitious and decide to give fiberglass or carbonfiber a try.

Very creative! I think instead of GS-T, you should put 4G63T. HAHA just a thought!

LOL!!! I was soooooooo close to doing it but my brother talked me out of it perhaps on the next one :)

Good luck with the carbon fiber one. I'm sure it's gonna look very good.

Thanks Iv'e never done it so I am kinda hesitant to try it but if I do I will definately post some pics

Definately kep us posted on the carbon fiber spark plug plate. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who would like to see one of these made.

Heres one I made a few months back. Held up well. No warping or melting and such.

so how did you cut it out without chipping it? for instance did you use a jigsaw or do you have access to a bandsaw?

I used a knife just for cutting plexiglass, I got mine from Lowes I am sure anywhere you buy plexigalss will have them though here is a pic

looked into the CarbonFiber stuff found this site www.carbonmods.com they sell kits for mould making and producing carbonfiber laminates I am sure there are some guys in the Fabrication forum who could make this better than I but I am going to give it a try when it warms up a bit. If anyone else tries this post some pics I'd love to know how it turns out!

Lastly I need to make a Mould from an existing part Should I make it custom or should I find an OEM cover and reproduce it in carbon? OEM would definately be easier!

OK cool that must have taken a while to cut out. just an idea but when you do make the carbon fiber cover you could maybe make a carbon fiber timing belt cover. i cant tell but i assume you have yours off cause of your strut bar

making a mold would be nice, esp if u wanted to re-produce, but if u made a mold, u would ###### wanna use a vac bag setup to make them. so imo, id use oem. And heat is ## enemy.. i did a CF valve cover, and while it lasted a while, the heat finally ate it.. and i did use a special resin for that one too.. just like anything, hot cold hot cold isnt helping lifetime LOL. GL!

It wasn't too bad maybe 10mins to cut it out. If you used thicker plexi I'm sure it would take longer but it actually works quite well. I got the car from my brother he started the modding process, I assume that's why he took off the cover but I'm not sure. I guess I could try depends how well the sparkplug cover goes

Thanks for the heads up I probably wouldn't have bought the right stuff!
