Ok so last night Im driving in my auto gst. I press the gas enough for it to downshift and then I herd a pop then dead motor. I tried starting it but it would just crank. I havent checked for spark or fuel pressure but thats first on my to do list. What else could it be? What should I do to diagnose my problme? Im pretty new when it comes to cars so advice and how to's would be great. Please help me out guys im depressed thinking I blew my motor. Thanks!!
 
Well how much boost were you runnning? Does your fuel pump prime when you turn the car to on but not crank it?

I'd say pull out one of the spark plugs, make sure that you didn't fry them.
 
did the pop come from the exhaust or from the engine bay. if it stills turns over but wont crank check timing belt, fuel , spark
 
ok I was running about 15psi on stock fuel pump stock injectors, stock everything beside bov and 3'' cat back. The pop came from the engine bay and I checked the belt and it was still intact but im not sure if it jumped or not. If its cranking but not starting could that still mean I blew the motor?
 
ok lets say I have fuel and spark would that mean that its either my timing belt jumped or motor that took a shit

yea I did that page is the shit. But after timing and compression what else could it be. I'm just trying to set on the table everything that it could be. But thanks again for that link it really helps out alot.
 
Did you pop a coupler loose? Not sure if you'd get absolutely no combustion in that case, but it's pretty easy to check.

At some point, you're going to go to the garage and actually do the things we're recommending, right?

If you wanna know if you've blown your motor (and you don't hear things clanking around when you turn it over), do a compression test. If you have a compression tester, this only takes 5-10 minutes even if you're kinda taking your time. Keep in mind that the motor is cold, and your compression will be lower than normal. But 0psi will definitely tell you something.

Anyway, you've got homework to do! Get crackin' and quit yappin' ;)
 
what would cause it to jump timing?

Many things. A broken balance shaft belt, running without a timing cover and getting road debris between the belt and sprocket, a worn hydraulic tensioner, miscellaneous damaged timing components, &c.

Many things can cause a no start. Instead of worrying about how many things could have one wrong, you could begin checking the things mentioned so far and find out what did go wrong. ;)

OK guys it turns out I wasnt getting spark due to a broken balance shaft belt. When the belt broke it broke the crank sensor right in half. Guess a good excuse to replace all the belts and water pump:cry:
 
:beatentodeath:ok just one more question. Is there anything else I could change or do mantinance wise while my car is on jack stands for the next 5- 7 days? Im changing the timing belt, balance shaft belt, just did an oil change, all my drive belts, water pump. What else is a good Idea to change at 104k miles before heavy modding?
 
What would that do. Keep in mind this is my daily driver

It would keep what just happened to you from happening again.:) You're lucky it didn't take out the timing belt (and then the valves).

Do a search for removing the balance shafts to find out more about how and why.

I'm not sure if you can switch to a 2gb CAS, but that's a helluva lot easier to replace!
