My friend just recently gave me a blue Pilot Automotive LED rocker switch to hook up my LED's to but the problem is I have no idea what wire goes to what prong. The top prong is gold while the other bottom two are silver. Does anyone have any idea how to hook this switch up? Here is a picture of the switch.

Hmmm...not sure but my guess would be that the gold is your positive and the 2 silvers are both ground. You could just test and see yourself by touching the wires to each prong and seeing which combination works. Just my .02. I hope this helps you in some way.

Ya, I am almost positive that you can't mess anything up anyways. All a switch does is complete a circuit. The only way it could possibly mess something up is if it had a voltage reducer on it or something. Just hook it up a few times until it works.

The gold is most likely positive and the silver are grounds. You probably don't need to run 2 grounds for LEDS though.

Yeah I tried it yesterday and it worked tons of different ways. Thank you all for your input and I look forward to talking to you some more on DSMTuners.

Yeah actually I hooked it up last night and believe it or not I didn't need a ground for some reason, Somehow it works. What do you guys think:talon:

Doesn't make sence to me...you normally need a complete circuit for a switch to function. If you have a digital multi meter, you could use the resistance measurments to see which of those pins short out or are open depending on the position of the rocker switch. Does the LED light up when the switch is in the ON position? If not, I would guess that the light system you are wiring this into has a relay involved further down the harness and it is finding the ground through that relay.

It probably uses a common supply or a common ground... Or, if the switch is a SPDT then the LED is wired in parallel with one of the switch positions.
