I'm pretty sure I recently got a few boost leaks, also I'm wondering what number the boost gauge needle is at during idle ?

I was going to BLT it, got the tester and went clamped it all on and had the air tank ready and when the time came...I forgot I didn't have a nozzle to fill the BLTester:ohdamn: That will have to wait till Thursday I guess

symptoms
-idle varys now fluctuates between 750-1000 then when idling at a light drops to 500 rpm and back to 750
-boost gauge needle is more at 15-14 hg at idle now, I'm pretty sure it used to be at 18-19 at idle.
-the woman said it recently smells like gas idling( haven't BLtested it yet but I slightly am leaning toward injector seals)

can some people chime in about what position your boost gauge needle sits at idle.

thanks.

Aftermarket or the factory one . My aftermarket almosts tanks at idle quarter of the peddle down it zeroes to boost or like you are out of vacuum . what turbo are you running and what fuel pump factory or an aftermarket? I had an issue. They commonly list the a gas overfill in my Haynes manual so it may be a lil fumey from time to time LOL.Reassuring right?Occasionally if this is an aftermarket they may have reused the fuel pump seal and its old and rotted. Napa like 20 bucks max unbolt the rear seat and the tank is easily accesible

Upper injector seal leaks will definitely make the area smell like gas. Been there.

To answer your question, at 750rpm idle and normal cruise I'm at 19-20. BLT is a good thing to do, I'd get on that ;)

At idle, with the TB shut, the vacuum will be most affected by leaks between the throttle body and piston. Poor rings cause low vacuum, as well as lower injector seals, intake manifold gasket, TB gasket, BISS oring, etc etc. Leaks in your IC pipe won't really affect your idle vacuum, but are nevertheless good to check out. Also do a mechanical and ignition timing check, as even being a bit off can cause lower than normal vacuum.

I read a thread on here last night that said, with -20 on the boost gauge at idle
Means there are zero leaks on the intake side, IC piping and TB area. Is that correct?

not sure if rich, wide band isn't hooked up, but it holds 14psi fine all the way. The only thing seems to be affected is @ idle the rpms fluctuates from 750-1100 then drops to 500ish and back normal and while that is happening the boost gauge(after market) varies from -16 to -11 or -12 HG and then steady's back, car seems like its going to die.

I feel the leak has to do with the injectors seals because of recently being able to smell gas during idling, don't know how many miles are on the seals currently

a few days before this it was fine, idled good around 800rpm with a steady -19 HG on the boost gauge. Once I do a BLT I'll report back with leaking areas.

Might be you iac valve? I had a similar issue tried idling carb cleaner but didn't really fix it. You just might wanna remove it and take a look. You can get a cheap gasket if its not the problem.

Think I might have found the problem, the "idle switch" green wire going to the TB was broken off, just saw on Virtual bay.

-what's the easy way to fix this?

-could this have caused the erratic idle from 750 to 1200 to 500rpm almost seeming like it's about to die, and return to 750 while idling? also it is not consistent, it will do it a few times and then be normal idling @ 750-800 rpms for 20-30 seconds and then once again it acts up.
