After getting gas today, i noticed that my gas tank is leaking, it just seems to drip every once in awhile, nothing to bad. I was wondering what is the best way to go about fixing it? Thanks

First thing is you need to locate the leak. Does it only leak when you are filling the tank, or after driving aroung a while? Next time you see fuel under you car take a look underneath. See if you cant see exactly where it is comming from. Then you can look into fixing the problem.

well, i noticed it leaked alot more when i was pumping the gas, but now that im home and it's sat, it's not leaking at all. When i first parked it, it dripped a few times from the lower right hand corner on the bottom (if you looking at it from the back of the car) but the whole lower right handside of the tank was a wet from gas..

Does that mean you haven't tried to locate the leak?

I've decided to just get a new gas tank from a junk yard. Now, does anyone know what years and or type cars are out there that will have a tank that will fit my 92 talon? Thanks, B

Don't go out and get a gas tank, if you don't know what your problem is. For all you know, the leak could just be coming from the nozzle fill tube or vent tube.

Find out what's leaking, then fix it, simple.

What's the filler neck setup on the 1g look like? I would suspect that it's leaking somewhere on the filler neck if it only leaks when you put gas in it.

If that's the case there are tank opoxy/sealers you can get at any parts store that are gas resistant and hold up pretty well.

Try JB Weld when you do find the leak. I used it on my 84 celica gt a while back to quick fix my radiator. Worked for a few days...just enough to get me by. May be a different story without all the heat and pressure.

I would recommend taking the beast to a car wash place and powerwash the as much of the road crap off the tank and THEN look. Its tough trying to find something when its hidden under road crap.

Just my two cents, good luck.

I too, have a leaky tank. I'm not exactly sure where the access door to the fuel sender is located on an AWD dsm, but I know that I found lots of gas on top of my fuel tank. I would first inspect the exit point of the tank to the fuel line before doing buying anything. You'll probably need a different fuel sender assembly.

After I did the fuel pump on my 2g I noticed that my tank was leaking turned out I had the top of the fuel pump assembly on crooked so it was an easy fix.My reason in saying anything was it leaked the worst about 3 to 5 minutes upon turning the car off but it also would evaporate very quick so I never would have saw if I didnt watch right when I turned the car off.The leaking was very minimal when the car was running I would never have noticed except for the smell.

I've decided the way i'm going to have to go is, take the tank off.. Does anyone have any tips on how to go about this? Thanks, B
