toronto,
hey guys, Ive got me a serious issue here, I changed my fuel pump a week ago, with like a quarter tank, anyways I broke 2 studs off in the process, damn rusty thing... anyways i got everything back on went to the track drove a while, but more gas in but only like 10 litres. the other night I filled up, within 30 seconds of driving away my cabin reaked of gas... I go home, pop the trunk cover off, and sure enough theres a little gas on the top of the tank... I took it apart today, and put in gasket stuff, that gas wont eat its a special gas thing, still doesnt work 100% but its much better. But theres still some pretty strong smell, and slight residue on the tank.
I was thinking, i know they make a product to seal a gas tank crack, can i take this putty like stuff, and run a wall all the way around the top of the sending unit, and push it in slightly? I know this method is extremely ghetto, but I dont wanna drop a tank out, and find another one, I just need the car to get me to and from work for a while.
thanks, sorry for the length

Had the same exact problem in the Galant. Two consecutive studs snapped off and the gas would leak out around the top of the assembly when cornering. I just fixed it a few days ago. I drilled out one stud, and slid a bolt up from the inside of the tank with some JB weld around the head of the bolt. Put the nut on the other side and let it set like that. New stud! I only did one because it was much easier to get to and drill out. It was good enough, because it doesn't leak anymore. I went about 6 months without filling up my tank more than half way.
