Leaking fuel from return line on sending unit

99 GSX Its as if the return line where it goes into sending unit is clogged or something, fuel is being sprayed forcefully. Oh and no start, with occasional sputtering maybe related? I haven't ran it in a month. So what could be wrong with the sending unit? And happy early thanksgiving everybody

Open it up and look. There's not much to it, just a siphon which can be removed easily and disassembled.

Time to clean o replace the line.

I just wanted other peoples opinion on what they think is going on, the 8an SS line turns into like a 3/8 rubber line to the L shaped nipple. The rubber line is new, and is spraying fuel where it slides onto the nipple even with the metal clamp tight.

Open it up and look. There's not much to it, just a siphon which can be removed easily and disassembled.

I don't know much about the sending units on the gsx all too well, and I hate removing the sending unit... But if that's what I gotta do then... :/

Your going to need a new gasket to put it back together. It will expand a lot when you remove the sending unit making it unusable. Just FYI

The ring gasket around the sending unit? I have removed the fuel pump twice before and never replaced it either time ordering one now

Disconnect the hose line and blow through it to see if it's clogged, if it is clogged, then you need to remove the sending unit and clean the line.

If you look at picture 8, you can see clearly how the return line goes, you have to remove the white plastic thing at the end of the line (shown on picture 8) and clean it up.


The gasket on the sending unit will expand when it gets wet of gasoline,.
You have to wait till it gets dry so it can get it's size back, once is dry, you can put it back on.

I have done it so many times and I always to the same thing, It will be extremely hard to install it all expanded.

As soon as you get the rubber out, Dry it right away and keep it under the sun or at least where it can get some kind of air to get it dry,,, After you do that, then proceed with the rest, this way once you are finished and ready to put all back together, the rubber will be dry and ready to be put back on.

Hey thanks, I will try that tomorrow morning, and see what happens. Where are the marks on the sending unit and tank to properly line up everything on install? I looked last time I took it apart and didn't see anything
