OK, I've researched this to death both on this site and others. I've found a lot of people w/ the same problem but no real answers. I bought a 255 walbro. When I pulled the access plate I found a severely rusted sending unit. I did manage to get all 6 nuts off but I broke my fuel line. Now I need a sending unit. The underside of the unit looks great, but the top is nasty(I did blow off any loose debris before hand to avoid tank contamination) I would consider a used one if not rusty. The local parts stores have no listing and this $500 dealer story is scary. I have toyed w/ the idea of a brake line flare tool and puting a new fitting on. I also need to get the broken end of the line out of the rubber line(already soaked w/ PB.)

Almost every used one you find will be rusted. I would attempt to get that fitting off and repair/replace the broken hose. If that is not possible then get a used one and clean it up real good.

If you have some cash to blow, you could get a brand new fuel cell from Jegs for around a hundred bucks and go about it that way.

I tried to straighten the line, or what was left of it, and I broke the line off flush w/ the top of the sender. I called the dodge dealer and they could get a part # but showed a discontinued part. Then I called Mits w/ the part # and they brought up a fuel pump guage assembly at the price of $44. It will be in Tuesday. If it is the right part I'll post the part # and hopefully it will help someone else in the future.

did you get the right part?

what I did is get rid of the "LIMP" line they comes out of the stock sending unit. I drilled it out and replaced it with a AN bulkhead. I used 3/8" fuel safe hose to connect the bottom of the sending unit to the fuel pump with fuel line clamps. The top of the sending unit I put a -6an 90 degree fitting and ran a -6an line to the fuel filter and it cost me about $100-$115. Much cheaper than a "new" sending unit, and you get the benefit of a fuel upgrade for future projects.

i have the exact same problem and actually have done all the same stuff...i was about to post a similar thread...so i feel your pain...why cant the stupid dealers just sell the sending unit with out the pump...would make life easier...noway its worth 500...

c4uldron any chance you have a picture of the AN bulkhead installed? and where can i pick up an AN bulkhead and 90* -6AN fitting?

could i cut the fuel line right after the fitting on the outside and run a rubber house or a fuel line hose to the top of the fuel pump.
