Vancouver,
Hey well I tried doing that boost leak with a homemade tester. I strapped it on the turbo, and used one of those 300 PSI machines that you can hook up in the cigrette lighter. It was pumping and pumping and pumping, I didn't hear any hisses and the psi wouldn't go over 15 psi. What the hell is going on, should I use a manual pumper?? I noticed on the 14b there is a hole for a threaded screw right beside where the J-pipe bolts go, there is no screw there, could that leak out the boost?

well if it didnt go over 15psi ur leaking.. try a manual pump that way u can here it. leak...

I believe the hole you are talking about would be the one where either the oil supply line or coolant line bolts to the turbo. Taht won't make a difference if that bolt is there or not. I think you are going to have to find a way to test it.

Well I used a manual pumper and no luck. I pumped for a good 5 minutes. I have a side to side FMIC on my 2g with 2.5 inch piping all around. I went around and tightened all the clamps. I think I might just have to take it in a shop. I have no clue whats going on. The threaded hole on the turbo is just under the left bolt where the J pipe connects to the turbo. It runs fine off boost, when I punch it around 3500 rpm car shakes and sputters and smells like gas. Its only when boost kicks in.

The problem here is that the cigarette lighter pump is too loud and the bike pump is too weak. I suggest using at least a 2 gal compressor and repeat the test along with soapy water. The leaks are there, you just have to be patient about it.

how loud are the compressors as opposed to the smaller electric pumps? or would it be better off just using an air tank, or can that not provide enough pressure?

You need a compressor that has enough reserve capacity so the compressor doesn't need to stay on after it fills up the tank.

i just used a refillable tank and just fill it up and go, the only time it makes sound is when its filling up the intake..once you let off its silent and you should be able to hear everything :thumb:

Justin :dsm: :talon:
but how many trips did you make to the gas station? ;)
