leak testing and doing something wrong

ok the other day my aftermarket boost gauge quit working .no vacum and no boost .but the factory gauge is still working.so i decided to do a leak test .this is my first time.so i built one,put it on and no pressure on the gauge.took the gauge out hooked it up to my air compressure and checked it with the gauge on my compressure .it was dead on.so did the leak test again .I cant get 1 psi .I did notice that air was coming out of two hoses that run to the intake tube.one of the hoses go to something under the battery and the other comes off the valve cover.can some one tell me what im doing wrong.i have searched and checked vfaq thanks.

are you doing this with the intake pipe still on? usually when I check for leaks I connect it right to the turbo itself.

make sure the tee-d off portion coming from your pressure source didn't fall off.

mine does it all the time.

yes it was connected directly to the turbo.i moved the boost gauge to the hose marked p on the intake and it seems to be working again.i changed this after i put the intake pipe back on .im going to try the leak test again tomorrow.does the motor have to be tdc.oh and by the way the air was also leaking out of the oil dipstick.the boost gauge was hooked up to the fuel pressure line were it attaches to the fire wall.also i dont know if this has any thing to do with the problem but ,after the car sits for a couple of days it takes for ever to crank.its like it has lost the fuel prime(or pressure)and has to build it up again before it will crank.thanks James
