Lancer Evolution III Intake Manifold

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

I just thought I'd let everyone know I've picked up a 2nd manifold that will be for sale shortly. I bought it solely for the coil pack and igniter. It appears to be from a RVR because of the throttle cable being opposite of ours. For those not following, it probably has the 54mm opening, no egr, no 5th nipple. Until it gets here, I won't be for sure. I also have some 1g turbo throttle bodies and new gaskets and can port this manifold to match if need be. I'm including the only picture I have at this point for reference, but better ones will come when it arrives. I will probably list this on ebay with a 1g TB and new gaskets when time comes, but if I receive an offer that catches my attention, it will be yours. Thanks for the space and good luck to all pursuing this.

Dan.. thanks for the great post.

The weather here is starting to be good enough to make it desirable to work on the DSM again (I actually just ripped out the entire interior today so that I could replace the oil mat that doubles as carpet in my car). I still need to get my mani hot tanked and cleaned up, along with the EVO III TB. I still need to get one of those Hondata gaskets too.

Derek-

about that, RRE had one that they sold my buddy for $40!
Mine was $50 and I had to pay shipping!
yeah, it was a fun night. we were there till probably 1130, but it was worth it.

Well I too am part of the EVOIII IM club with special thanks going out to Daren who passed on this ebay link eBay Motors: 95-99 Eclipse Talon 4G63 Intake Manifold (item 120220723092 end time Feb-16-08 16:58:32 PST). It appears this IM doesn't have the "driver's side nipple" and it also appears it's missing the BOV nipple. The hole is there, just no nipple. I'm sure this will be an easy fix - thoughts?

I also picked up the coil pack this ebay seller was listing - just in case I needed it. So for the IM w/TB and CP shipped cost me $75 - not a bad deal if you ask me :thumb:.

I'll upload some better pics once it get delivered.

If you take a look at this seller's completed listings, you'll see a JDM head for $24.99. Both Daren and I think he wasn't sure what parts he was actually selling????

The seller obviously doesn't know what he's talking about.

From eBay Seller said:
This is a oem intake manifold off of my 1997 Eclipse GS-T.

Actually, the seller is correct. The IM is an OEM manifold. But it certainly didn't come from the factory like this, as he obviously implies. Congrats.

something wierd though. you always hear people say that the stock smic can handle(at low boost) even a 16g? Mike would hold his hand behind my side mount to see how much air was coming through, and he said out of nowhere it would get so hot he couldn't hold his hand near it!
hmm, my little t25 hits 190 and heat soaks an intercooler that "should" be able to handle the airflow and cooling easily?

More then likely this is happening because at 17psi that poor little T25 has turned into a hairdryer. The T25 isn't designed to be run at those kind of boost levels, so its just pumping out the hot air. The 16g's will be much more efficient at these levels & shouldn't heat soak the SMIC as quickly.

Glad to hear you finally got a baseline done, now get that new mani on & see how it performs :thumb: Should be interesting to see if it will free up any top end on the T25, which is really lacking in this area.

If it is broken off, should be a pretty simple fix. Just drill it out (can do it here at work if you want to do it on a press) & then tap & install a barbed fitting, with some sealant, good as new :thumb:

Oh a side note, when you going to update your profile, whats that like 3 or 4 years old now :p

I am well aware of the limitations of the stock turbo.
I just wanted to push it a little.

Besides, I have a hahn fmic that will be installed later. The very next thing that is going on will be the evo manifold.
However, there are a few more things I am waiting on. I need to get a hold of one of the rear braces so I don't get leaks at the intake manifold gasket. also I am very close to having an egr compatable fix for this manifold.

Post up the info/pics if you figure out what your going to run for an EGR setup, I need to figure out what exactly I'm doing with mine in the coming months, so I can get this installed in the spring.

^ Wow, talk about fitting your stallion into a tight garage.

Got the second manifold today. It's from an RVR. I'm including some pics comparing it to the one from the evo. Only difference between them is the size of the opening for the throttle body.

Here's some pics comparing the USDM and JDM coil and igniter. Obviously the brackets are way different. I didn't see a good clean way of mounting the US parts to the manifold. So when the chance came, I bought the 2nd manifold for the coil and igniter. If anyone is interested in a bare manifold, pm me.

Just a couple TB pics. I rebuilt the 1G and installed a block off plate, that's why it looks so much better than the rest.
Top left to right is RVR - Evo
Bottom left to right is 2G -1G

I know im a bit late but as i posted earlier in the thread (when everyone thought i was crazy) there is an egr setup on the evoIII IM. It is very different and I found this out after trying to use my block off plate :p . I actually just took it off and plugged it with the no-holed banjo bolt earlier talked about LOL. I have an EVOIII coil pack available (just gotta search for it) and I also still have that TB Anthony haha, I know you've been trying to get that for a while.

Not to jump of subject but Lucky EVOIII owner guy, do you know or have you heard how much power the bottom end on the 3's can take? I think im pushing the boundaries:confused:

When matching the TB's up to each other I can stick the opening of the 1st gen TB into the evoIII. There are subtle differences between my 2nd gen and the evo.

One thing I am extremely glad about is that we finally have someone on here that can give us real life proof with an actual car ( which I want to buy from him, RIGHT NOW!!)

Well Ill be pulling my JM FAB off this coming week to add a heat gasket and some other things so i can try and snap some then. I think i still have the funny looking thingy majig that came off the EGR. It look almost like a metal flex line similar to conduit i guess. Im sure I can find it laying around my mess of a garage somewhere. Hopefully im around more then i have been in the past and can touch on this thread routinely!

BTW, thanks for letting me know i missed a reply :p LOL i didnt really read through it in detail.

TATA til next time

I was talkin bout EvoCarl LOL... Yeah my goal, before I die, is to own every evolution ever made. Big dreams but meh I work hard.

On a sidenote. There is something different about the evoIII TB compared to that 2nd/1st gen. I have a JMFAB SMIM and with the evoIII on the throttle actuator hits the manifold. On the other 2 it does not. Unfortunately that makes it to where I cant use it :notgood:

Being as busy / Lazy as I am I havent put the two side by side to compare exactly what the differences are. Gives me something to do on my up and coming 5 day vacation, right!

Here are some pics of the EGR... I tried to take a picture of the Banjo bolt that's not really a Banjo bolt. I wonder why this thing was even on the car? Hopefully these pics give you a little bit of an idea!
