GOD DAMN YOU ANTHONY!!!!

With that said, how about a closer shot of that badge.:p
Why does the new one look so much brighter than the old one?
Good job picking up that coil pack too!

I'm kinda lost on this thread. So did you put the evo3 intake manifold on the 2g head w/o porting it? What were the results?

Killa_dsm-
You mean the MDP sensor.
you can leave it hanging to open air, run a vacume line to it, or there is a mount for it where it bolts in and you run the vaccum line to that. I think SBR sells it.

Gamble97-
Yes, you can bolt an evo 1,2,3 intake manifold onto a 2g head with no porting because the evo1-3 where 7bolts

-Dan

Does it flow better, any difference in performance? And does the evo3 have the spot for the mdp sensor and egr and all that other good stuff?

Damn DSMunknown you bought that for $310? Man I really need to start buying some in the summer while I'm in Japan and bring those over!

And also I had a question. What are you suppose to do with the MAP sensor?

MDP sensor is for EGR valve operation. This mani doesn't have the EGR provision cast into it like our stock mani's, so no EGR & therefore no MDP. I will probably install a custom EGR setup on mine (because of emission testing) so what I'll be doing for the MDP sensor is picking up the MDP to barb adapter that JM Fab makes. They you just tap into a vacuum source.

Was just curious (not able to verify at the moment) but it looks like the TB flange on 1g mani that is posted on the first page, is parallel to the head flange. It appears that the TB flange on the evoIII mani isn't parallel to the head flange. From the looks of it, this difference should rotate your TB elbow up like an inch or so at the end. Was wondering if this was the case & if guys who already have it installed had to modify their IC pipes? May not be so bad with a stock route IC setup, but the pipes probably won't line up properly on my short route FMIC, if what I'm seeing is true.

Anthony, I saw that mani on Ebay as well but these no way I was going to pay anyways close to that much for a mani I already had. What was the reason for buying an additional one, the coil pack, etc? Is the new one powdercoated or is it just a bead blasted finish?

Daren-

You are correct that the mounting flange and the TB blange are a liitle offset, but the engine is tilted slightly forward in the engine bay so it should be fine.

gamble-
Just looking at the manifold design you should be able to tell that it will improve performance and flow. Much shorter runners, little bigger cylindrical plenum, 60mm TB flange AND IT BOLTS RIGHT UP!

Its really a no brainer.

I had absolutely no problems, the silicone couplers make up for any play if it exists. I run a short route setup.

Thats sorta what I was thinking after I posted, then looked at an engine bay pick & saw how the motor isn't perfectly up & down. Just know my current TB sits parallel with the ground & then it looked like the TB flange was parallel with the head flange, with that 1g mani side view on the first page, which threw up a red flag. When I took a closer look at that pic, I'm thinking its just the angle that make the flanges look parallel when they probably aren't. Cars not where I'm at the moment, so wasn't able to verify my thoughts before posting. I'm going to double check tonight but I'm thinking they are the same angle afterall.

I'm kinda where you are right now. I have everything I need to instal right now, BUT I want to see about routeing an egr because I live in california and it would just save me the worry. AND I keep wanting to dyno before and after but there is no dyno near me that can handle AWD. Hmmm

The coil pack was (somewhat of) an afterthought. As I have stated before, it will be a while before the IM gets the pleasure of sitting in my engine bay. Therefore, I may entrust testing and tuning to two other highly knowledgeable, trustworthy, prominent DSM members (most noteably, 95GSXracer and ShapeGSX). These two individuals are gods, with more knowledge and experience than I could ever imagine. I will most likely sell one of them this IM, or I will give it to them in return for some service/advice. They have the immediate tools to test and tune such a part. I have full faith in them to post up their findings on the performance of this IM, to help all of us gain more information. These two individuals I hold in the highest regards. Plus, they live very close to me. ;)

I wasn't too happy paying double what I paid for my first one, but "them's the breaks." :sosad:

I did not purchase this IM for my own personal material gains (aka money). I did it to ensure that the performance numbers can be measured, and (more importantly) made available to the rest of the DSM community. Hopefully, others will see my dedication to the life and continuation of such a family, and mimic such dedication. This is one way I know how. Making others more knowledgeable is why I bought this item.

Did you find the coil pack on ebay? If so... i'm going to have to start my search soon if I want to find one before it gets warm outside.

The coil pack came with the IM. So no, I did not find it seperately.

So yesterday was my birthday. I had been planning on going to scripps(aquarium) for the day.

Went to work and got the pleasent surprise of being sent home right after muster(military). While I was walking out, my chief brought up the aquarium of the pacific. well I've never been there, so hey good idea. I go home and give the wife the idea and she says "hey great idea! the queen mary is down there and we can got there too!" to which I say "hey! RRE is right there too!"
So the aquarium was Gigantic and very Fun. I have saltwater aquariums by the way. ok so the good part is that we went to RRE so I could use my Xmas gift certificate and Bday certificate. So $300 at RRE!

Ok
SS brake lines, SS clutch line, RRE catch can, and B&M shifter. the shifter was out of stock but they said they would just ship it for nothing. Awesome #1. My wife mentions its my Bday. they give me a road race shirt. Awesome #2.
and now the reson this post is in this thread...

As I'm paying for the difference, I look on the shelf and there sits AN EVO3 COIL PACK.
"shrug, $20" SOLD!
Awesome #3.

I think it was a very good day!:thumb:

Okay... so, forgive my ignorance in advance, but with all this brew-ha-ha regarding EVO III mani's with or without the EGR port, I'm still a bit confused as to what exactly screws into the the threaded EGR port on the actual manifold??

With that said... what else do I need for my mani to keep the EGR functional? If you don't remember, my E3 mani has the threaded EGR port.

Took some quick pics of the new addition.
Probably gonna paint the bracket black so it looks new.

Anthony... I found something that you may wanna see. I tried to PM you, but your inbox is full... again. Hit me up when you've got some room.

It's only full because you decided to PM me. :p

So I bought a 2003 OEM Evo VIII intake manifold (completely untouched) to see what differences and similarities there were between it and the Evo III IM. Here are some photos. Notice the cathedral design to accomodate the fuel injectors.

BTW, the end of the runners measures 56mm-to-56.25mm x 28. These measurements are very similar to the Evo III IM (which, if you recall, measured at about 55.5mm x 28mm).
