LAMBORGHINI DOORS: HOW TO
this is a write-up for people who have questions on this mod so i would like to keep this thread as positive and informative as possible. This isn't cheap to do and its not really practical but of course looks cool as all hell (yes according to me
So check it out:
Hinges... they're filthy
. Note the air-shocks are not installed in any of these pics, theyre simple though they just slide right in. You can't put them in until the doors are bolted up though, and my doors are getting painted and solenoids installed so they are obviously not in the pics.
Don't believe the bullshit in the ads. "minor modification"!?!? The fenders have to be COMPLETELY modified to accept these. I, like a dumb ass, shaved my fenders before the hinges went on, so i have the pleasure of attempting to adjust them while they are already on the car, but hey, can't have everything right?
I test-fit these hinges on my 1996 Eclipse GS (daily beater.) they looked awesome but you could not put the fenders back on the car, they wouldn't fit over the hinges without modification.
Now look at this picture. This is a good picture of the modification that has to happen if you want these hinges.
Go outside and compare these to the door jambs of your 2G eclipse. Notice the entire inner fender has been hacked out and grinded smooth and rolled. There's a good inch-inch and a half of metal missing there, and there is alot of adjustment that has to be done to the hinges too once you get them.
Also, i have welded over and shaved the door jamb area. I dont know what to call it exactly, but on stock doors there is a little metal thing that holds the door from swinging too far open. I chopped that shit out (no use for it and its UGGGLY) and smoothed over, now all you see is beautiful paint (well, primer in these pics haha).
Also needing modification is the rear edge of the front fender. Take a look in this pic, notice the small crecent shape cut out of just behind the tire.
That shape is cut into there to give the shock and its mounting point clearance. All this cutting is very nessicary and a HUGE pain in the ass to do.
Hinge on the car in closed position.
Hinge on the car in "up" position.
It's easiest to bolt these to the car first, then the door itself. Simply because there is no adjustment when bolting on the door, only when bolting to the car, and in the hinge itself.
Youre also going to need about 3 people to hold the doors and position them correctly. Theyre heavy as F#ck and bulky and a pain in the ass, especially if they are spyder doors and power everything. Then you have to extend all the wires (simple, just solder so they dont come loose.)
As far as getting into the car, If you really dont feel like lifting the door (or cant) thin people usually don't have a problem sliding in without actually lifting the door. They open normally prolly 1/4 of the way and then go up.
Hope this write-up helped anybody looking to do this modification. Pics of the completed project should be up within the month. Any questions, ask away...
