LAMBORGHINI DOORS: HOW TO

this is a write-up for people who have questions on this mod so i would like to keep this thread as positive and informative as possible. This isn't cheap to do and its not really practical but of course looks cool as all hell (yes according to me :thumb:

So check it out:

Hinges... they're filthy :D. Note the air-shocks are not installed in any of these pics, theyre simple though they just slide right in. You can't put them in until the doors are bolted up though, and my doors are getting painted and solenoids installed so they are obviously not in the pics.

Don't believe the bullshit in the ads. "minor modification"!?!? The fenders have to be COMPLETELY modified to accept these. I, like a dumb ass, shaved my fenders before the hinges went on, so i have the pleasure of attempting to adjust them while they are already on the car, but hey, can't have everything right?

I test-fit these hinges on my 1996 Eclipse GS (daily beater.) they looked awesome but you could not put the fenders back on the car, they wouldn't fit over the hinges without modification.

Now look at this picture. This is a good picture of the modification that has to happen if you want these hinges.

Go outside and compare these to the door jambs of your 2G eclipse. Notice the entire inner fender has been hacked out and grinded smooth and rolled. There's a good inch-inch and a half of metal missing there, and there is alot of adjustment that has to be done to the hinges too once you get them.
Also, i have welded over and shaved the door jamb area. I dont know what to call it exactly, but on stock doors there is a little metal thing that holds the door from swinging too far open. I chopped that shit out (no use for it and its UGGGLY) and smoothed over, now all you see is beautiful paint (well, primer in these pics haha).

Also needing modification is the rear edge of the front fender. Take a look in this pic, notice the small crecent shape cut out of just behind the tire.

That shape is cut into there to give the shock and its mounting point clearance. All this cutting is very nessicary and a HUGE pain in the ass to do.

Hinge on the car in closed position.

Hinge on the car in "up" position.

It's easiest to bolt these to the car first, then the door itself. Simply because there is no adjustment when bolting on the door, only when bolting to the car, and in the hinge itself.
Youre also going to need about 3 people to hold the doors and position them correctly. Theyre heavy as F#ck and bulky and a pain in the ass, especially if they are spyder doors and power everything. Then you have to extend all the wires (simple, just solder so they dont come loose.)

As far as getting into the car, If you really dont feel like lifting the door (or cant) thin people usually don't have a problem sliding in without actually lifting the door. They open normally prolly 1/4 of the way and then go up.

Hope this write-up helped anybody looking to do this modification. Pics of the completed project should be up within the month. Any questions, ask away...

good job --- post it to the Faq forum esp seeings how a question comes up on these
every other week

im noticing that ur sideskirts are molded..i was told i couldnt get lambo doors installed bcuz my sideskirts were molded and u would have to take the fender off...

i call bullshit!!! you were told this by someone who was either scared to do it, or just plain didn't know what the hell he was talking about. I did it to my car so it can be done under fenders... takes cutting and alot of careful adjustment. If you want them, buy the parts and go from there... It can be done, my car is proof. :thumb:

Once everything is finished I will defineley move this to the tech article section

I'm sorry that you don't like them. I will go directly up to the bodyshop and remove them from my car if it would make you happy. anyways i like the way they look. as do other people. i wanted them so i got em.

you're very welcome :thumb: i'll keep you updated, more detailed pics as soon as i can borrow a better digital cam that doesn't die every five seconds...

those probably cost like 30 dollars to make. do yourself a favor and get them copied and resell them.

oh, IDENTITY CRISIS!

Well, this was bound to happen. I put up a friendly positive how-to because i noticed alot of questions about these doors, and i get idiots bashing me. This is intended for people interested in the door conversion, not people interested in talking smack.

Tell me this. If the hinges cost 30 dollars to make, why don't you make some sets, genius, and sell them at $970 profit???

This is the second time you have made an attack on my car in the "exterior" forum when youre clearly biased against these types of modifications. If you dont like it, keep your mouth shut. Don't go looking for trouble. It's that simple. And for the record:

If you have a problem with me or my car, i invite you to take it to PM's.

Then dont post pictures of your car on an internet forum. This is not Candyland. You post pictures of your car and mods on the internet, expect comments. You know this.

If you didn't want comments, then you would have posted this in the "tech article" section, not in the forum. With that said, you got exactly what you asked for: comments.

That's what he was telling you to do.

Jeeze, we're just a bit testy about, aren't we? I made no remark for nor against, and it sure doesn't matter to me what you do with your car. I just don't see the utility in it.

It would seem many, many people don't see the point in staying stock, either, but I don't take it personally.

Otherewise, yes, if you girls are all going to start your periods on the same day, it probably would be best done by PMS.

Agreed, for the most part, vertical door systems are installed for purely cosmetic reasons (not that there is anything wrong with that..you like it, great do it, you don't like, great leave your doors stock). However for certain applications I do see a utilitarian use for them. I remember some 8-12" curbs in Pasadena where street parking was the only option...and having a passenger open the door resulted in damage, period. With vertical doors high curbs wouldn't be a problem, esspecially for those of you who carry aloof or inconsiderate passangers who don't look or think before flinging open the door. The other place I could see a use for them would be in tight 2 car garages and tight parking spots...same reason, just to avoid hitting anything when you open the door (sometimes unavoidable). If I moved back south again they'd be on my shopping list :) ..but i don't have door clearance issues anymore so I'm not worried about it.

SpYyder : ignore the na-sayers good job and keep the pix comming. we both know the majority like them.

I love the way they look but I am just to lazy to install them.

My last body work project ended with me using a 3lb hammer and a pry-bar.

functional but not pretty :D

Rear: Blitz molded into custom centerpiece and molded into quarterpanels. sprayed black under the diffuser area to break up the white paint.
Sides: Blitz (low i think) mesh inserts in the vents painted black, molded into the body in the door jambs and everything
Front: street fighter, shaved the bumper lenses and i gotta paint the mesh black...
carbon fiber hood (they smashed up the first one and then they lost it on its way bakc to california...) i have no clue where it is.
i shaved the spoiler off the trunk lid because its cleaner that way...
some custom painting will be done this week.

to hell with all that, id love to have lambo doors because you can slip in and out of tight parking spaces with ease. of course, there is a very small chance that vehicles parked next to you also have lambo doors...

anyway, i definitely see utility in them. maybe not enough to warrant the price, but hey.

Or we can all wait for the Import Precision VLS doors which allow you to open your doors stock, and vertical. It also sets the door alot higher than normal lambo conversions. You can open it either vertical (from a closed door) or stock (from a closed door.) And they cost about 1500 (Estimate based on 3000GT and Stealth prices, they aren't done with Eclipse VLS yet.)

generally rolling the fender is in the wheel well, smoothing the inner lip of the fender flush with the outer surface of the quarter panel or fender.

in this case, i'm referring to the trailing vertical edge of the fender, which lines up with the leading vertical edge of the door.

There are several lambo door kits out there that do not need fender mods or anything extreme to mount them up...however on average youre looking at over $1000 for these kits to say the least. Ive seen them go as high as 3K.
I love the look, and the style, however i cant see spending that much on doors when what i really need is a turbo
