Lack of Coolant - Head Removal

I am starting to take my head off of my motor in a 2g and noticed there was no coolant in the upper hoses and no coolant coming out of the head. Is this normal?

Does the coolant settle to the bottom of the block?

The overflow bottle is full.

Well being that the FIRST THING you do BEFORE pulling a head is DRAIN the damn Block of Coolant so you DON"T contaminate your Crankcase with Coolant consider yourself LUCKY - & YES the entire Block/ Head is FULL of Coolant normally & YES it Drains down when you DRAIN IT, it's called GRAVITY - Hopefully you will look over the Tech Article Section prior to REASSEMBLY because if you don't we may not have enough BANDWITH to get it running - love, Buck

The coolant should have been filled to the filler neck.

Most of the coolant was drained when I drained my oil: HG blew.

I haven't drained the coolant yet and the head is still on. That is why I was concerned. I guess it just further confirms blown HG!
