What are some experiences with Kuhmo tires for you guys? Are they quality? Im looking into buying my first pair of wheels and tires...I was looking at 17" Eneki RS7's and Kuhmo tires. Any experiences//comments//problems or praise would be appreciated!!

depends on which ones you get. I know that the ecsta supra 712's are a pretty good tire. Whatever you get, look on ebay, you'll wind up spending a lot less that way.

i have kumho 711's on my car. they are the cheapest and lowest level tire made by kumho i think, they are about 100 bucks a pop. they are so-so, they are pretty much exactly what i wanted, a cheap low pro decent tire. they are kind of loud, and ive heard complaints of them "pulling" on the steering, i never had a problem with it however. (perhaps other people dont know how to properly infate a tire  ) i just replaced the one tire after just over a years use, my own fault really. i have camber like a mother and the inside of my tires are pretty bald. but other then that, no real complaints, the higher model kumhos are pretty damn good tires. i do think there are better brands out there, like toyo and nitto, but it all depends on exactly what you what them for.

kind of like tunerkid said, their cheaper lower models aren't that great but the ecstas are awesome - a friend of mine has ecstas on his 97 vette and they are sticky as hell - they develop a lot of their stuff here in akron and i know one of the executives there - they put a lot of r and d and testing into the better models and they run their mini coopers all the time on their track and around town

cool thanks guy, this was exactly the information i was looking for!! Great advice :)

I've never really had a problem with my Ecsta 712's, but check out DSMJim's post in this thread. Just a wiseman's opinion..like I said, I think they're pretty good, but then again I've never really tried to do any crazy braking or autoXing or anything with them. I dunno if I'm gonna buy them again though, like somebody else in that post said, they don't last for very long. I've had them on my car twice, the first time they only lasted maybe 5,000 miles or so.

& I have no idea why you posted this on the Appearence/Interior board...

i went from stock 16"ers and crappy sears tires to 18" falkens and Kuhmo Ecsta 711's and on a insta-spooling t25 my first gear wheelspin was almost alleviated. launching still sucked but you could definately tell they were gripping alot more than the crappy ones.

it used to be-
launch, slip clutch, spin chirp chirp, then little grip, then the measly t25 kicked in then it was just spin spin, 2nd, chirp, boost, spin, grab, then smooth.

then it was
launch, slip clutch, chirp grab grab full boost, light spin, torque steer(since it grabbed now), 2nd, chirp, grab, full boost, more torque steer, then smooth.

i dont know if that helped, but it was sure fun writing it.

It was fun reading it too :thumb: :D

I have the ecsta supra's not bad for normal driving and launches. Haven't done anything crazy with them though but pretty decent price too.

In the past year I've replaced 2 Kumho 711 with blisters on the sidewall. They were 215x40 R17. The guy at the tire shop said the blisters might have been caused by a pot hole, but he recommended going to a 215x50 R17. He said a taller sidewall would make a big difference. For now I put a set of 712's in the front and 711's in the rear.

with all low pros you must be careful when driving. i live in PA and PA roads might be the wrost roads in the country  i was going to go with 215/40s but quickly changed my mind to 215/45's. it might not seem like that big of a difference, but that could be the difference between bending or cracking a rim and not. i never had a problem with my 711's blistering, however hitting any good sized pothole going at a decent speed a few times usually will ruin a low pro tire. my friend had to replace 2 toyos on his civic on the right side from driving over a pothole and it ripped the sidewall up pretty good and ruined his tires. when considering rims and tires, you must realize driving becomes different. you have to pay attention about 10x more, lowered about 100x more, and lowered with a kit and rims like me, about 10000000x more, its a PITA. hence the reason i want to get rid of my car. just remeber to pick the tire that suits your NEEDS best, not just what looks good. and become a much more aware driver and you should be fine. good luck with your new wheels.

EDIT: oh i completely forgot, my kumhos dont squeal at all, even when spinning the tires or hard cornering they dont squeal, also 711's are not the greatest in the rain, you have to pull out slowly or you will just spin. also no hard cornering.

I was just told by a tire shop today that the Kuhmo 712's need to be strictly rotated every 6k miles or they can wear in pockets. I was telling them about how the one 712 I have on my eclipse seems to have a buldge in the tread all the way around and they told me it was probably from not rotating them frequently enough. They said it has been an issue with the 712's for a while and they are introducing a new tire to replace the 712's because of it.

I was at the tire shop getting 2 Kuhmo 711's on my wife's Celica. I have been pretty happy with the Kuhmo's that I have had so far.

i have ecsta 712's on 17" rims.

it spins first gear, thats about it, theve lasted pretty long, and i even drove on a flat one for a few miles ( stupid nail ) no probs LOL

I would stay away from Kumho 711s. They are noisy, unstable in the wet and they wear so easily. I always bought Yokohamas and thought I could save a little.

I went with them coz they are cheaper ($97/tire @ Tire Rack). But you get what you pay for. I went back to Yokohamas and never again will I sacrifice price on tires.
