Sorry if this is the wrong section.... or if this has already been answered i searched the forum and i didnt see anything on max tire size ...

Was just wondering, i have a set of 18 inch zinic sofin b rims that fit nicely on my 96 talon tsi fwd with 225/40zr18 but tires need replacing and i found a set of 225/50r18 real cheap ... so my question is,, will these tires fit?? does the 40 to 50 series make that big of a difference and does the zr to r speed rating make a difference??? any help would be appreciated... :hmm:

The basic difference will be that the space between the rim and the tire tread is a bit thicker than the original tires you have. So they will fit on the rim fine but it will depend on your ride height for clearance. I found out in ehow.com that "
Tire Construction Type
The letter designation R in our 235/45/R17 indicates this tire is of radial construction, meaning the belt plies radiate outward from the center of the rim. This is the most common type of tire construction and is sold as standard equipment on passenger cars and light trucks in the U.S. This type of construction offers superior wet and dry weather handling, and fuel mileage characteristics." I hope it helped somewhat.

thank you both, you both had straight forward answers that help extremely a lot now i know with the 40 to 50 change they will still work for my car for with the tires i have on now i still have a 2 to 3 inch clearence however i think that i might as well just buck up and quit being a cheapy and buy a brand new set of the same size tires for they will last alot longer and i will have the good ole warranty but it does give me a better idea for some more cussion LOL. ty again..
