knocking sound up till 2500rpm

ok so i just bought this new 92tsi awd that im going to be dropping in my stroker motor so its not to bad if the motor is shot but im told it has a gallant vr4 jdm motor with about 60k on it

anways it knocks pretty loud around the timing belt side but only till about 2200 rpm or so then it goes away and sounds perfect, the kid i bought it from says its the tenssioner bearing, but we all know its no such thing.

any ideas before i start to pull this motor?\


oh and im curious ### im going to sell the motor to a buddy, and want to make sure i sell him a god motor

It certainly sounds like a bad idler or tensioner. They are cheap and easy to replace.

idleer yeha makes sense but the tensioner ? even if the two bolts are loose it wouldnt do that

definitely sounds like the auto tensioner has lost its hardness and is not stiff like it should be i had a similar thing

well lest its a easy fix and cheap fix i just wanted to ask around before i started to pull it for my buddy
