I checked for the black ooze and didn't find any. As a matter of fact, all the black substance had completely oozed away. I come across another knock sensor that looked intact at a junkyard that I managed to get for free while picking up some other items :shhh: .
My knock is better now, but still present, and seems to come and go with the loud ticking I get. I put some engine restorer in it with the last oil change and got to thinking that maybe it is clogging up the small oil holes in the outdated lash adjusters because as I get closer to my next oil change the ticking isn't as loud and less frequent. Also, my knock only seems to happen when I cruise with the pedal pressed slightly, a little more knock going up hill, a little more if the engine is cold, and not at all at WOT(if I release the pedal first while knocking).

Does anyone have any similar experience with engine restore?

I was going to use Gunk engine flush, remove my oil pan and clean stuff out. I read posts where people have used the Gunk product, and I almost bought it but like most things I read the back label first and it states in bold letters "NOT RECOMMENDED FOR TURBO CHARGED ENGINES". Anybody that has used Gunk had a bad experience with it? Are there any other alternatives beside B-12 chemtool?

Thanks in advance for any advice, criticism or comments.

What are your fuel trims at, when the knock happens what are your O2's, are they low.
When you hacked your mass, did you back the screw out on the bottom(that can lean you out bad and cause knock).
Does the newer Knock sensor have any gew leak at all, if so that could still be the problem. Look into phantom knock...... What knid of fuel are you running, try a little race gas or at least 93octane and see if that helps any.

Have you tried turning down your boost a pound or two?? Check your Timing???
What kind of knock are you getting, as high as 43??? Let me know........ :thumb:

Do not use that engine flush crap yet......... If so there are much better ones out there.

My fuel trims are ftrl 139, ftrm 113, and ftrh 109. I've watched my O2 fuel trims and pretty much what the ftrl, ftrm and ftrh's are at depending how much the pedal is pressed. I did back out the screw, but then I closed it all the way, then I blocked the hole the screw is in completely attempting to get my fuel trims down. I'm still taking care of boost/vacuum leaks, I just changed the injector seals yesterday.
The new/used knocked sensor is perfect, no oozing, otherwise i would have thrown it back in the heap I found it. I'm thinking it might be phantom knock, since it get it when my lifters are noisy, but I am also wondering if my exhaust valves or something is sticking letting extra air in. Soon I will pull the spark plugs and check those for any signs. I always run 93 octane.

My boost is turned down to 14psi and I can't seem to get it to go down anymore than that. I checked my timing for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it was at 12 degrees. I turned down to 5 and then later advanced it to 7 degrees base timing since the I wasn't getting any knock at WOT, and I still don't. My knock does go all the way up to 43, when I trying to cruise at around 2900 rpm's and just trying to maintain a constant speed...tps is at like 23%

I hope that will help you help me.

What are those other better brands out there? I am going to flush and pull my oil pan this weekend and I'm open to suggestions of all kinds. I'm hoping that some sludge is blocking some oil holes in the head/lash adjusters and the flush will clean them out.

the 3g lifters are next on my agenda, but I'm just hoping that the lifters are the cause for my phantom knock and not something else. Other posts that I have read about the lifter ticks are mostly about how they are annoying, but not actually hurting their performance.

I just let my 2000 eclipse go back(REPO). Too bad I didn't know about the 3g lifters before then.

Does anyone ever advance their base timing?

3G lifter doesn't mean lifter from 3G Eclipse, it means it has been revised twice hence 3rd generation lifters.

Thanks for letting me know that oldman, when I went to the junk yard I was looking for a 4g64 motor in a 3g eclipse and now I'm glad I didn't find them.

So when I install my new revised lash adjusters is there anything else I should replace while I have the cams removed, just for good measure??? I already plan to replace the cam seal, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, and I might even go ahead and remove the balance shaft...I might. Of course I will check the rocker arms and springs for wear too. I'm also debating on removing the head completely to check the valves and replace the valve guides and seals. I am burning oil and I'm sure it is coming through my valves.

LOL. No shit! Search for 3g lifters on here and you will find links to a couple vendors that have them going for REALLY cheap.

lifter vs kid's Christmas gifts

I liked Christmas so much more when I was younger.

You do know that there is no need to remove the cams when replacing the lifters right? However, if it's about time for the timing belt, it would be a good idea to change the crank pulley as well.

Lifters. :D

Well I figure it would be easier to remove the cams than remove the springs since I don't have a spring compressor, or am I WAY off....please let me know I've never worked on a head before.

Yeah you don't need to take off anything but the valve cover to get the lifters swapped. You can just remove the ones the cam is off, crank it over, remove the rest.

But if you are going to be doing timing belt and other stuff (head off) you might as well wait. It'd be easier to drop them in then pry around in there. My hands were bleeding a little when I swapped mine.

edit: by off i mean the ones the lobe is not pressing on!
