knocking on lower half of engine

i just rebuilt my engine and was wondering if it was possible for a ticking sound to be caused from the main barings? like the crank being too small? its extremly loud and sounds like valve tick and thats what we assumed it was until i got under the car while it was running and heard it louder under there. is this possible?

its your balance shaft. time for balance shaft removal. remove your oil pan and you should see the damage caused by the shaft. hows your oil pressure?

forgot to mention that we balance shaft removed it. um we are going to plasticauge it tonight to see if thats the problem. but i can not think of any other possibilities. oil pressure is fine also, besides a loose bolt connected to the turbo but thats a different matter.

didnt pull the pan yet. consistant knock through out the rpms. i havent driven it yet but when i rev it the knock continues with it. what other sings can i look for to know if its valve tick, bad timing, or bad bearings?

we checked the valves and the timing is right as far as the timing belt. any ideas?

You may have spun a rod bearing. You have to make every effort possible to ensure there is no dirt or dust on the rod, crank, or bearings. Remove the oil filter, tear the filter open and inspect it for metal flakes. If there is a lot , you may want to remove your oil pan to inspect further.

when i pulled the oil pan and checked the bearings there was no sign of a spun bearing or metal chunks or even flakes to that extent. im going to try to tdc it and see what the valves on the head look like.

did you pull off the bearings and look at them? or just look at the rods and thought it looked ok? does the knock get louder as you rev the engine or does it just stay the same level? did you plastigauge everything BEFORE you put it together?

"PISTON SLAP"...did you put the pistons in the right holes?If oil preassure is fine chances are the rod bearings are fine.

well oil pressure is fine. and we bought pistons made for 4g63 engine specific. so i cant think of what the problem is.

did you bore or did you just buy pistons and put them in?No piston is the same...the cylinder has to be bored for "that piston".what machine work was done to it?

Did oil the wrist pins before installing the pistons in the block.

bored cylinder to pistons size and pistons came pre completed. its not piston slap either since i measured everything and ensured it all fit.

im having the same problem just rebuilt my 6bolt bottom end with 2g head. i here a knocking noise in my bottom end its not that loud but oil pressure is fine. any suggestions

my problem is just as bad if not worse...my vacuum gauge dances between 10-15 and my engine sounds like its a diesel... the head was rebuilt about 5,000 miles ago and vacuum was always at 20-19. what do you suggest. I REALLY NEED HELP. oh the noise rises with rpm and no boost...(6bolt) thanks
