Having a bit of a problem. My car is knocking between about 1600 rpm and 2900 rpm and the noise seems to be coming from the head.I was thinking Lifters but i pulled the valve cover and checked each one and all seemed good.i was checking them by trying to move the rocker arms and pushing down on the lifter and got no results yet. i don't have dsmlink or any kind of tuning equipment but i have a Scan gauge that im looking at Ignition timing with. when it hits boost in the specified rpm ranges the ignition timing reads between -7 and 0 and once it gets out of those rpms it starts to advance and the car runs right. will the lifters tick without having any kind of signs of damage? i know the car does have the original 95 lifters so they aren't the revised ones. i went under the car and listened and the knock/tap can't be heard from the bottom end which leads me to believe its not rod knock or anything of that nature. im currently only running waste gate 8psi for fear of breaking something.the car has 163,XXX miles if it matters. so what could the sound be if not lifters? or could it be lifters even though they all appear to be tight?

Thanks

You can't really check lifters to be honest. the oil port is too small, so oil can't get in or out as quickly as it needs to so they tick. My suggestion would be to replace them anyway. If you get them from ebay it's like 80 bucks for the topline revised lifters. It's a small price to pay even if they aren't the issue, and you get rid of AN annoying tick anyway. You could possibly check the location of the tick if you turn the car on and use the throttle body to rev it up, unless it only happens under load. Good luck dude
