I drove my car a few days ago, and it ran fine except for my flexplate bolts coming loose. So, I replaced those with new ones and lock-tighted them on. I drove the car after that, and it has a knocking sound cming from the bottom end of the engine. I cant tell if its coming from the oil pan, or behind the block.

the weird part is that it only does it around 3k rpms. Before that, theres no sound, anf after that around 4k and up, there's no knocking sound. What would cause this? Thanks for the help.

I don't have a flywheel. But I found some more to my story. The sound stays there from 3k and above. I'm getting good oil pressure, but look what I found about 10 min. ago when I drained my oil...

It just so happens to be right after I finish my AWD auto tranny install and I was ready to drive it after months of sitting, ha. I went out to tune it today, and whenever I go over 3k rpms I hear this knock sound that sounded like its coming from my oil pan. So I drain the oil, and look at the oil drain pan and I find this...

Here's two with my magnet (which all of those little parts seem to be attracted to)

What would cause this? Can rod knock happen all of the sudden? What else could the shavings be from? Is it rebuild time since these were in my oil? Is it even worth pulling my x-fer case to pull the pan to "make sure"?

This sucks..

If you have the money, buy a new short block. If your pressed for cash, I would replace the bearings and crankshaft but you won't know for sure until you get in there and inspect the damage.

If you were to put new bearings on the more than likely scorn crankshaft, you will get premature bearing failure and have to do this all over again very soon. It could be a temporary fix but I wouldn't waste the time and money.

I believe these crankshafts can't be resurfaced/polished because of the nitrate coating on them, which is why I say get a new one. The coating is one of the main reasons why they're so durable and if a shop polishes/resurfaces the crankshaft it takes this coating off.
