I took a video of this, car was quiet as could be, i did a oil flush with some sea foam, put in new oil, and the lifters were nice and quiet, went out and drove around for a bit, built up about 15 psi of boost, and when i parked it i heard this knocking from the valve train. I don't hear it down in the block just on top of the valve cover.

i would go with with 3g lifters. using thicker oil builds oil pressure and if you are not careful you might blow out a seal.

I love all of you guys saying that's lifter tick, because lifter tick almost always goes away when revved.

Come on you guys....

Do a compression test.

I would be wary of seafoam, it blew my buddies car up. The stuff worries me.

Do a compression test, and come back to us.

Sounds like rod knock to me.

Seafoam doesn't blow up cars, it will speed up the explosion of a car that was bound to blow up soon though. This definitely doesn't sound or act like lifter tick.

All engines are bound to blow up.
We had seafoamed my friends galant, because he had sworn by seafoam.

Well he did it, car stalled out. (Seafoam website swears it's impossible to hydrolock a car with it) started it, drove it, it acted funny. Died within 5 minutes of a drive. No compression on cylinder 1 and 3.
Still can't really explain that, but I've been wary of the stuff ever since.

That and you can knock free contaminants and sludge from the engine with it from areas where it was harmless, to areas where it's harmful.

Just my 2 cents.

Compression test, ASAP.

i have heard that before. its not a rod knock, not a spun bearing, or piston slap. i have gone through the bottom end of my friends engine. he had the same noise.

if the car idles fine and you dont have a miss its not a valve hitting the piston. drop the oil pan and check and pull rod caps and inspect the bearings. if you see copper on the bearing you will have to rebuild the bottom end. but pay attention which way the rod cap goes, and each rod cap needs to go on the same way it came off. mark the caps. if you dont know how to do it, i would reccomend you get someone who can.

make sure you are using the right octane fuel. it could ba a fuel knock.

Did a compression test, the results are the same as before, actually a bit higher from when i did them 2 weeks ago before this arose. #1 and #3 were around 110psi, and #2 & # 4 were around 133 psi, this is at an altitude of 6300 feet as well. Time to drain the oil and look for shavings. I did a youtube search and other 4g63s did this after sea foam so im hoping to change the oil and cure it, if not time to pull the pan.
