Hello, I am a new user on this site. I have a question I hope someone can answer. I recently replaced the bulbs in my fog lights with a higher wattage bulb. I only did this because that's all my local Napa carried. Anyhow, it worked great for a while, then I noticed my foglights were not coming on. I checked the fuse and it was blown. I replaced it with a 30 amp, stock was 15, and it works fine now. My question is, should I be using one with this high of amperage? I was told it could possibly catch fire, if not what amperage fuse should I be using with the higher watt bulbs? Any insight will be greatly appreciated! :)

check your fog harnes for fried wires that are touching each other causing a short. That would be my best bet, also you can get the proper bulbs and try them. If it still occurs, its most definately a short somewhere, fuses dont just blow, theres always a reason.

I have about 5 years in the automotive electronic field, first thing they told us NEVER REPLACE A FUSE WITH A HIGHER AMPERAGE...the reason your blowing a fuse is becuase the new "higher wattage" bulbs you put in require more amps then the stock ones did cuasing the fuse to see to high of amperage and thus blowing the fuse, it is a risk of fire and could potentionally cuase other problems...
p.s. put that 15A fuse back in!!!

Well, I tried replacing it with another 15 amp fuse and it blew as soon as i tried it, is there a higher amp fuse I can use that won't be a fire risk?

yeah but the problem is the bulbs themselves not the fuses, those bulbs require more amperage then that fuse can handle which makes it blow, i mean yeah it might work for a while, but all i'm saying is it's not "playing it safe" i had the same problem with my interior light and it did cuase a fire so...i'd try and get the stock replacement lights if possible.

OMG stfu man and chill, i know what ur talking about, and i know my electronics, and here is the case where u DO REPLACE THE FUSE

turbosport: replace the fuse with a 20amp, if u have it wired as i do, through the park lights, then the fuse is only used to push the 5-8watt park lights, with the fogs (around 12-14watts sometimes more) the fuse cant handle it, around 18 watts, to a 15 amp fuse isnt good. I have a 20 amp fuse on mine, and im all set. Nothing burning, everything is checked...

gota break the rules sometimes jason. I know my shit

Okay I'll go ahead and try the 20 amp fuse first, didn't wanna have to buy bulbs again anyhow. I appreciate your guys' input.

i run my fogs on my car with my 20 amp fuse, and i have silver star signals, that use a bit more ampreage then the regular ones, and my fuse hasnt burnt out yet...its been half a year now. Ive tested it, pulled it out looked at the slot, checking if anything is burnt, nope all set (knock on wood) :D
