Basically, i blew a piston ring on my gsx's motor so i pulled it out and am in the process/attempt to rebuild it.. although.. i want to really go through this car and make it look real nice. I've read around that you should strip everything off until you have just the frame of the car basically and paint it from there..

I'm keeping the car the same color.. red.. so would it be better to just do the exterior of the car instead of pulling everything out and repainting it like brand new? I plan on painting the whole interior black anyways.. and get some new seats but i have no clue where to start on this whole painting project. Any advice would be great! :thumb:

Well, if time is not a major issue...

look at this as the perfect opportunity to make it clean and look like brand new again

If it was mine, I d strip everyhting and in the process clean everysingle piece there is, every wire harness, vacuum hose, every bracket, everything, wash the engine with that hot acid, cant recall the name, to make it look like brand new too

As for the paint, if you dont wanna paint it, the engine copmartment , at least strip it, and degrease everything, it ll look a thousand times better when your car will have that fresh new paint

but if of course money is not an issue, you re better off painting the booth too...especially since it ll be red and the rest of the car will be black

best advise there is I think is do it once, but do it right

That sounds like a good idea now.. haha. I think i'll be doing that!

When going down to the frame.. you leave the windsheild on correct? along with all the other glass peices.. heh.. stupid question and i'm probably guessing yes.

I'm kinda scared of all the wires and where they go if i pull them out.. LOL are they hard to recognize what goes where? or easy..

I would not pull the glass if you are leaving the car the same color. You could pull it yourself, but would want a professional to reinstall to make sure that you have no leaks. Not too expensive but still a added cost. I also would not paint the engine bay unless the paint is bad...there is a ton of wires and lines that would need to be removed. If you can clean it up that should suffice, as long as you are keeping the same color. It would not hurt to take the extra steps to strip the car and paint everything, but it is unnecessary when keeping the same color. Hope this helps.
Remember 95% of a paint job is in the prep...take your time.

great advice, i couldn't have said it better myself.:thumb:

I would pull the glass and all trim. Clean and inspect everything. And put a nice new molding on there. The 2g hatch likes to rust under the molding where that little crease is.

The rear glass molding on the hatch. At the bottom corners there are those seems. Water gets under there and rusts out the hatch. I've seen it often.

oh ok gotchya, i'm more thinking if i should gut the interior and clean it up or just leave it.. its a nice dark grey already and the only wear on it is the cracked leather seats.. might just wanna replace those.. but should i take off all the interior panels and gut the inside to clean it out and reinstall it? or is it just to much of a hastle to even bother..

Also.. does it matter if i get any of the wires in it wet when cleaning the engine bay.. everythings disconnected.. if i just wanted to spray everything down n scrub it w/ simple green and some water?
