I've had my 97 TSi for 6 months and only have an intake and wheels so far but have some engine work lined up. Until about 2 weeks ago when my car shit the bed. AC compressor seized and threw the AC belt, which slipped the large accessory belt. Needless to say, i have no AC, my water pump is messed up, alternator is shot, battery died b/c of no alternator, and the car has 71k miles on it so i need to do the timing/balance belts. I have all the parts to fix the car, but it cost me about $700 for all of it. Once all this crap is fixed, is it worth it to keep the car and risk having more shit break on me, or should i sell it and get something more reliable. I paid just over $5500 for the car. Let me know what you guys think :|

You have all the parts.

Toss them on then enjoy the car.

That shit can happen to any car DSM or not.

it just seems like my car is broken more than it is running... and because of that, my beater that i drive when my talon is broken has now gotten so much use that its about to die too. Should i keep it and pray nothing else breaks, or go for a more reliable car?

Your battery is most likely not dead, just out of juice. This is a good time to invest in a battery charger.

Keep the car, because I don't want to see another thread in a couple weeks entitled "I should've kept the DSM   " No, but seriously, these are nice cars ... riding in other cars just doesn't feel the same anymore. I told my friend yesterday when driving 55mph, "You know, I swear to God that I'm not going 55 ... it feels like I'm going 70", but the ol' speedometer said 55!

No car is ever problem free especially modified cars. 70k miles its still got a lot of life in her but still those problems will occur and you may have to spend more money on something else that breaks. But it would be wise if you just kept it the belts are that big of an issue just imagine the guys on here that crankwalk or blow there motors..Now that sucks ass.

keep it...now you have a small list of things you know are brand new and probably won't fail during the rest of it's life with you...that list will grow, as the car ages things need to be replaced, i don't care if it is a jag, volvo, gmc, tvr or a damn vw....every car ages, mechanical parts go bad, electrical parts go bad, etc....it's the way of the automobile. Hell, even brand new cars have things go wrong...sometimes often (had a brand new jeep cherokee that was towed 70 miles to the dealership 3 times in the 2 months that i owned it...and usually had the CEL lit). Keep it, fix it, enjoy it. Other than a few notable exceptions one car is equally reliable to any other given that you do proper preventative maintenence and just take care of it in general. :thumb:

I cant belive your complaing after only $700 worth of repairs! But i know where your coming from , it took me 1500 to just get my car running again and i was thinking about selling it and getting something more reliable, but the i realized i had nothing else to spend my money on , my dsm is my hobby. so im serious when i say youll regret it...

keep it, every other car in the same price range feels like a slug, a stagecoach, or is noisy as hell, or all three...

you won't find a better car for the $ anywhere.

now if you want to fork out 25- 35 thousand, you can buy a car thats either newer or just as good (EVO WRX Supra), but why would you???

Thanks guys, I've decided to keep the car and pray to god it doesnt walk on me (knock on wood). What car could be meaner than a 2g slammed with turbo? I couldnt think of any that i can afford so im keepin her. Thanks again for not letting me do something stupid :thumb:
