So I am driving (not daily drvier) car to work this morning because my mechanic is picking the car up to do some work on the car. I get about half way to work and the car completely shuts down. Still have the "Key In" beeping but nothing else. I pop the hood and check the fuses and I blew the 20amp 'Ignition' fuse. So I put in another, turn the car around and pop another one in like 20 seconds. Now I have done NOTHING since my last race. The car has just been sitting in the garage. All I have done is pull the factory radio out.

Spark plugs are brand new. Plug wires brand new. Checked for exposed wiring and found nothing on that end. To the best of my knowledge, there is no exposed wiring in the car.

ANY SUGGESTIONS ?????

Thanks for all the input. I got the car up on a lift and found a relay that had the cover knocked off of it somehow and the insides were exposed. It was fine when it was just sitting there idoling, but when you drove it, the thing was hitting the transmission case causing the short. Got a new cover and attached it a little better and no problems yet. :thumb: Thanks again for the input guys.

i had this problem in another car of mine and i would go to a store and get a bigger fuse till you get the one that doesnt blow.

that what i did and havent had a problem since.

Find the problem, dont go to a bigger fuse. The bigger fuse is just a band-iad for a real problem. Like you know fuses dont pop on there own. If it is a wire, Keep looking, some times there will be a wire with insulation chaffed off from vibration burried down deep.

i agree with silver eclipse, either bust out the wire skematics and see what the fuse controls exactly and start chasing broken/chaffed wires or bring it to a shop and have them look at it...They put the 20 amp fuse in there for a reason, so dont go upping the amperage...it could cause other problems! :thumb:

I tried looking up the skematic on alldata but there was no listing for just "igntion fuse" if you could post some more details of what block and what number fuse it is i will get a skematic for you to look at and help with your diag.

The "IGN. SW" fuse in the engine fusebox powers all circuits on the ignition key and the sunroof. Double check what the rating should be as on my 99 (and all 2g) it is supposed to be a 30 amp which may be your problem.

I dont remember which fuse it was but after i installed an aftermarket exhaust my rear o2 sensor was hitting the heat sheild until it cut through the wire and shorted. My car would blow a fuse and my car would just shut off after hitting a bump
