I looked for 2 hours but no luck on this. Put k and n air filter on and i know this gives me more air but when i shift car vents , am i losing hp? it doesn't feel as fast but just got the car and never had it at the strip yet. it is stock t25, who ever had it before me put a header ex. manifold on it, its comming of by the way i just need to find a stock one. i didn't think this car ran like it should when i bought it but i had to have it. oh by the way its a 98 red gsx. the car had the stock air box on it and it didn't vent with it. should i put it back on until i do like bov 1st gen and boost control? i got beat by half a car length by some little none turbo ed Honda. LOL. i need help! the old man.
 
Don't mod the car until you have a boost gauge and a better than the stock 2g blow off valve. With an aftermarket air intake the stock 2g bov will constantly be leaking hence the sounds and the bad performance you are noticing. Put the factory airbox back on for now.
 
ok, i put a higher octane gas in and went back to the stock air filter and it does run better, man, the bov's on the 98's must be wimpy, thanks for all the imput. i am an old racer and just wanted a turbo car to make it fast and a daily driver, i have learned a lot of this forum but man, some ppl's post are just nasty to newbies. LOL have a good day. i say end this post. vic in iowa.
 
What octane were you running? 91 is minimal for our cars. If you were using lower then that, then thats what your problem was. I ran my car with the upgraded air filter and the stock blow off valve for a while and it was fine. Just make sure if you want to upgrade anything else be sure go get a aftermarket boost gauge and manual boost controller.

First off, I was trying to help. You are the newbie to DSMs, not me. I was trying to help you by telling you the correct terminology and you repeatedly chose not to listen to me. I'm sorry I got mad but when you asked for help, I tried to give it only to be told that I'm WRONG because some street racers said you had a header. Well whoopdie-freakin-do. I'm confused as to why you brought up the fact that Iowa has more race tracks. Race tracks might be one thing but I can guarantee you that IA does not have the most number of DSMs which, if I remember correctly, was the car in question when you originally posted for help. Don't be so set in your ways that you refuse to believe a "young kid" when told the truth. We all try to help each other on this site but when you refuse to listen, it sort of becomes a moot point doesn't it? I believe I deserve a modicum of respect from you and I shouldn't have to defend myself on information that was correctly stated. Just to set the record straight-I am 25, I work with nuclear power in the Navy, and manifold is NOT slang for anything. Good day to you. :rolleyes:

as someone said 91 is the minimum you should run, and they don't really run that well on it... Ioweya should have 93 octane and this is all you should ever ever ever use... preferably from a good place like chevron as opposed to billy bobs discount gas...

go put the air filter back on... I ran mine with no upgrades but catback exhaust and air filter for 4 years and it definately was not "slower".

And yes headers are N/a and manifolds are for mounting turbos. tube or not... adn throw the pacesetter in the trash and get a manifold with a heat shield if you plan on keeping your stock fan from melting, or don't like cracks.
the street racer punks should have known that...

Absolutely, that's why I told him to put it back to stock for now. With the stock 2g bov I could not not do anything to the car without it leaking tons of air at idle partial throttle and wide open. So yeah, better performance with stock junk until he does some other mods first. Hell, when my car was completely stock I tried the free mod of shortening the dump tube in the intake and even that upset the crappy bov.
 
I never had a problem either, dump tube mod, bcs pulled, open element filter, catback running about 12-13 psi... no problems even on the stock bov... UNLESS his bov is roken and he doesn't realize it... They tend to blow their tops off or come unsealed and then it would probably be real funky...
 
my last post on this, i thank all of u for the info, i had a guy in town check out my car that runs 12.9s and knows a lot about the dsm, he has a import shop also, he says the bov is junk on my car,here in a couple weeks im getting a greddy, ic pipe, gauge, and boost control. cant see buying another 2nd g bov when im getting other stuff shortley,ok i give, LOL i will call my ------ a manifold, and if im brave enough to post again LOL, i know my typing sucks, to many drugs when i was younger i guess. if u like my stupid post i post a lot on our cedar rapids forum. crunderground.com vic logans dad :confused:
