Just received my BOSAL exhaust - NOT GOOD

Um...yea I ordered the 3" catback from S. Effects Performance and received it in just a few days. The thing looks great except the knobs put a stock sized flange on the 3" exhaust so it would match the cat. So now I have a 3" exhaust with a 2" flange at the cat.

I am just gonna hack the crap flange off and weld on a 3" flange but I would prefer to keep it all stainless. Do any of you know where I can get a 3" stainless two hole flange?

I used to work in the automotive (OEM Manufacture) exhaust business. Most of your exhaust is a 409 or 439 Stainless. Some could be 304 stainless or similar 300 series stainless. The 300 series is more expensive, and has the shiny chrome type appearance. 400 series stainless has the same appearance as basic carbon steel, but does not rust as fast. What material is yours?

Anyway, a lot of the flanges are a Powdered Metal stainless variant. They are not stamped but molded, kind of like plastic. I am not sure where you might get a flange, other than some raw stock and make one.

When you weld it, make sure you use a stainless wire that is the correct alloy for your base metal. Otherwise the weld will not be solid, (may crack around the edges or toe), and will rust. My best guess is check an exhaust shop, but keep the above in mind.

This exhaust is the shiney chrome like material.

I ended up hacking the flange of and welding a 2.5" flange on to the pipe. I then ported the 2.5" flange to match the somewhat smaller than 3" flange on my cat eliminating downpipe.

The weld isn't the prettiest because I don't have SS wire or the perfect gas mix for it but its plenty strong and much better than it was.

For reference the 2.5" flange cost me $2.40 at my local exhaust shop!
