As the title so creatively states, I just joined the ranks of the very, very....very few, and the proud Espelir owners. I'm hoping to get some pics up maybe tonight and I'll probably get some sound clips over the weekend, but I wanted to give everyone a run down of the sytem and installation information.

*Note, all of this is without and aftermarket downpipe/testpipe*

I came home from school and was about to walk in my door when I saw a great big box inscribed JGT-500 on it. I was completely overjoyed, regardless of the fact that it was the scheduled delivery date and that I had practically held my mother at knifepoint to make sure that there were signs on the doors stating to leave the package on the deck in the event that nobody was home. First thing's first: I'm not sure that the UPS person really had the physique to manhandle the box, as there was a hanger poking out from it most likely hitting the ground after a minor drop. Either that or it got a little jumbled around in the truck, not a big deal, the boys in brown are still my favorites. I cut the two blue straps on the packaging and decided to take a look at everything. I was enthralled upon opening the package as there was not a scratch, dent, or even a minor ding on any of the mirror-polished stainless steel (the object which was enthralling me :D ). Packaging was basic yet effective, using those form fitting plastic bags with the material that holds its shape under compression (probably an awful explanation, but I think everyone knows what I'm talking about.) I began inspecting everything and it was confirmed that I had everything needed. I will at this point note that there are no instructions that I found that came with the system. I don't know if this is a true detriment to anyone, as there are a total of two pieces and 4 bolts with lock nuts for the system. My solution to the problem was to simply note the location of the stock 02 sensor bung and the orientation of the can.

My sister's boyfriend helped me out with the install, and we used his uncle's garage (which has yummy air tools and the like.) I will at this point note out that the uncle was a jerk because he has a chipped 330ci and an H2 and kept referring to my car as a "lawnmower." While still in my supporting mod getting stage, I just kinda smiled and tuned him out. We jacked the car up and began to disassemble the stock exhaust.

Even the most meek will become agressive, swearing farmboys when trying to move a corroded stock exhaust. After a half a can of WD40 and a whole bunch of pressure, the rear section bolts just broke, whatever, I want to throw it as far as I can for sport. We took the hangers off, (note that it is much easier to take the main muffler hanger bracket off of the car and put it on the aftermarket, then bolt it up, but make sure it is oriented correctly) Now, the catalytic converter studs are awful. We used nearly every trick in the book. My sister's bf wasn't really paying attention and ended up hacking part of one of the studs off, and I watched it happen all the while some little fat dwarf with a DSMTuners shirt on kept telling me that there was something wrong with that idea. So.....it got cut, and Kyle needs to get another stud from the dealership until he gets is DP/TP. prolly 5 bucks right there. Note that the Espelir system comes with 2 80mm gaskets, but does not give you a gasket for the catalytic converter. The gasket for the cat was so demolished and fused that we had to chip it off and sand down the surface for a new gasket. I have a leaky exhaust until later tonight when we put a gasket in, so that's why no sound clips. An open ended wrench will take care of the o2 sensor, dunno how it came out so easy. Now, after everything old is off, the new stuff goes on. We hung everything, and it looked good, I was ready to cringe as I sighted over to the catalytic converter, but was very relieved to see that it lined up 100%. Sweet. Bolted everything together, low and behold, fitment was excellent. The gasket and new stud go on tonight. Note that if you break a stud, you need a torch most likely. Heat what's left until its RED. Get some vise grips and turn it before it cools. Overall, a great system, good fitment.

Edited because my Michael Jackson hands can't type

Lookin forward to some of them thar pics and exhaust clips for how it sounds.

I was planning to get them before but the Evo version was kinda funny looking, at least the tip. I hope they had changed it on the Eclipse version. I decided to go with the HKS Carbon-Ti system and Im happy with it in terms of looks and sound.

How loud is it?

Some sound clips would be like Popeye's chicken....the shiznit...

Nice write up. My A'pexi N-1 is all banged up and sounds like something is rattling inside of it. I was either going to get the same thing, or come strong with a GT-Spec, but then this Espelir caught my eye as something different to possibly try. How much are they going for? And where can you get them?

OK everyone, just got back to mia casa, and was pleasantly suprised with all of the replies. I need to ask my sister if I can use her digital camera, because her card is full and I am sure that anyone who has a sister or girlfriend knows better than to mess with anything owned by them without asking first because trying to fight with a menstrual woman would be like Tyson Vs. Lewis. So, that being said.

I went down to my local Mitsu dealership and got a gasket for the reducer (suprisingly a nice piece, too bad that won't last because the downpipe and test pipe are going on in about two weeks time....), but the stud won't be in until monday. I don't want to take pics with it being dark out, tomorrow I will def get some because the can is really nice, and crooked like the sexual orientation of the Fab 5, which was how I wanted it. I find it very attractive, and the fun just never ends in a tunnel. I will do my damnedest to get a vid up, even with the leak. The only problem that I can tell is that it has the gurgle from the leak, because the sound coming out of the muffler is very deep, almost like Thermal, just louder. Please be patient and I will deliver some good stuff.

Even with the leak, the sound is intense and sweet. I had a friend drive her down one of the access roads and give me a couple of passes at different throttle levels, and we both confirmed that it has a very sweet sound. As soon as I can I'll do the same thing with a camera and someone can prolly host it for me.

EDIT:: Oh, and I got mine for about 560 shipped from istoreparts.com

Road/Race supposedly only stock this espelir exhaust instead of the ol' N1. "Better craftsmanship" or something. I think the N1 looks better though, but I'm not sure cause havent seen many pics. So post a butt load of pics.

560 dollars for a catback is absurd. You could be in the 12's for that.

You have to really understand that all these mufflers sound pretty much the same. I've heard hundreds of dsm's with exhausts (shootout, etc) and not one of them stuck out as sounding any different from the next.

Local kid has a 40 dollar ebay muffler and his car sounds identical to the other 3 cars with exhausts, them being apexi, hk$, and I don't know the other.

If you're happy with it and the sound, thats fine. I just don't want unknowing people reading this thread to think that a muffler with 2ft of pipe welded on the end will sound better than a cheaper one because it costs more.

Kdutts you must be an Englsh major with a minor in poltical science! You said a lot but didn't say anything. We want some meat, not just an appetizer. Mark
Just joking man and by the way you were enthRalled not enthalled. My typing is poor so I am not throwing stones. not even fruity pebbles!
Enthralled: Held spellbound

Way to go and start raining on my parade.... :D

If you can get a stock GS-T into the twelves for 560 bucks please tell me, because I would love to do that, otherwise I'll just follow the steps for stage II upgrades and go spend another 3000 dollars like most everyone else who runs low ETs.

In regards to half number two, I was debating going the cheapo route with my exhaust, but after watching a friend get some shady parts online and try to use them, it wasn't even the sound I was concerned about (his sounded AWFUL though), it was the fitment. I dunno about other people on the site, but with all of the fitment and fabrication that has to be done during other upgrades like an FMIC bumper trimming and say, having to do some sawzall action to install a lager turbo, I was willing to pay the extra money in this regard so that I could have quality fitment and hanging. Saving a whole bunch of money doesn't justify to me the risk of having an exhaust that wobbles around over bumps, and with huge piping, potentially knocking against the underbody. If I bought a cheap Ebay piece and it fit great, then I would be extremely happy. The other thing-Stainless Steel. I didn't want to go Aluminized or any other coating because I wanted that sucker to last forever, and last forever it will, without getting corroded and looking terrible.

I'm sorry if I tried to convey that you WILL definitely get better sound from the most expensive system, I know a guy who swears by muscle car glasspacks for his DSM. I'm glad to see your looking out for others on that issue.

In closing, I don't want my exhaust thread closed down because I got into an argument with someone else over an exhaust and our own differences of opinion. Let me have my small thread, it seems like a bunch of people are interested in the Espelir.

And to a comment to someone way back in the thread, the Espelir looks very N1ish

EDIT: And to the post right above me, I had to type that thing in about 5 minutes before the end of a class, hence my terrible spelling. To be enthralled would be to be placed under a spell

Its called laughing gas buddy, anyway, he was exaggerating. GG on the exhaust, I would rather use a bolt on exhaust rather than an ebay muffler. Get some pics and a sound clip.

Here's a pic of mine while you guys wait for his pics and sound. I bought mine from Road Race possibly a year ago. It was great when I first got it but now it's too loud.

If you want a quiet exhaust go with 3 inch RS*R. I got mine for only 420shipped and i love it.

Back on topic. Good write up, but tell us more about the performance of the exhaust.

As of right now I refuse to comment on the performance of my exhaust due to the fact that I do not have a downpipe or testpipe, which is where the real gains are to be made in the exhaust system, and the cat back is a prep mod so that the rest of the exhaust will easily keep up with the TP/DP. Any gains from simply removing the stock exhaust are probably minimal at this point, however the car is much more enjoyable to drive. I will be purchasing the Espelir downpipe in a week or so, and then I will give a full run down of performance gains. Even better, if I can get up to the track, then I will see what kind of differences I get as far as et.s and trap speed. Still, the car feels like it is doing a lot less work now, in effect "breathing easier." I'll see what I can do once I get out of class for pics.

Ok, I took some pictures yesterday evening while the light was still good for it. Only problem is my photoshop expired sometime without my knowing it and I need to size the pics down a bit. I also need someone to host them for me. If anyone can do both, I'll send them over as soon as I can.
